It would be nice if you had the option to copy across the maint set previously on the other aircraft.

Hi there,

Thanks for the suggestion, as Matias says the system is setup to swap with maintenance, if it really runs out of hours it leaves some flights behind on the old equipment. May be we can build in logic where you can check a box and allow it to swap maintenance or not. There are some use cases where you are leasing an aircraft and are swapping to an owned aircraft of the same type where you would want maintenance to go with it.

Let us see what we can do.

On the backend, maintenance is encoded as if it was a route. It might explain why it is copied over when you swap a route.
In some cases it might be more useful to keep the maintenance on the new aircraft, in other cases it might not be useful. But in any case, negative hours should not appear

Is it possible to automatically cancel maintenance for an aircraft that is swapped, from time to time I see when I swap an aircraft, wither it goes into minus hours, or there is maintenance assigned and a small amount of time wasted that cant be used.

So my proposal is that if an aircraft is swapped, the maintence associated with the aircraft is not copied across to the new aircraft, only the routes.

It can get very messy if you are swapping say 50 aircraft.

Fair enough, I guess. There still has to be a formula behind it or the game wouldn't be able to calculate it.

However, to expand a bit further, the issue with using "Research Route" is that aircraft no longer show up there once they have been withdrawn from production in the world's calendar and this is an issue for long worlds.

As an example, I joined Private World #3563 which starts with 5x 737-200. However, it was 1989 when I joined and the 737-200 is withdrawn in 1987 in the game, so block times no longer showed up in the research - it was effectively impossible to research routes through any means other than creating them and seeing what happens. That world has another 30+ years of gameplay left (a full year of real-world time), and anyone who joins the rest of that time will be stuck with five aircraft they can't directly plan. I used the 737-300 as a proxy, but as more and more analogous aircraft are withdrawn, the issue will be harder to work around.

At the very least, can the game be adjusted to make it so any aircraft that exists in the world shows up in the Research Route function?

Sorry for not replying earlier. The new block time calculation is more fluid and takes into consideration other factors than just distance and speed.
You can use the route research feature (Operations -> Research Route) to get correctly calculated block times for any airport and aircraft combination.

Realizing this has been dormant for a long time, is it possible to share the actual method for calculating this? I've always used a robust set of spreadsheets I developed for route planning that can make it possible to figure out block times for potential routes in one place without having to manually look up each desired destination airport - being able to update the formulas in such a spreadsheet would be extremely beneficial.
