General Chat / Yay! A new world has been created!!!
« on: July 30, 2008, 08:06:25 pm »
I wanted Q400s quite early on and was hoping for a 1997 start.  A 1995's close enough though and there's some sweet aircraft about.  Certainly something fresh  rather than seeing Caravelle 10Bs all over the place!  I just hope they hike up the price of a certain aircraft family.

General Chat / Anhone played any Final Fantasy games?
« on: May 17, 2008, 10:20:41 am »
It's called marketing.  Make them hot or it doesn't sell as well.  And no, I don't get a boner over animated characters.

Following the same logic, how can a text game centered on Fordism rather than skill be exciting and appealing to play?  *shakes head* Today's adults as well...

How can a drug addict be the benchmark of beauty "back then"? *shakes head* Today's adults.

How can a cigarette be a sex symbol?  *shakes head* Today's adults.

How come the people we're supposed to love are promiscuous druggies? *shakes head* Today's humanity.

How come humans past and present rape women at their own will?  *shakes head* Humanity past and present.

The whole human race itself is rotten.  Lifeismeaninglessyoulivetodie?

Fiction may not be so bad afterall.

Played 1 and 7.  I abandoned 1 due to its slow battle interface but finished 7 multiple times.

p.s. Yuna in 10 is hawwwwwt!

General Chat / Excel question
« on: May 15, 2008, 11:07:58 pm »
I'm absolutely useless at programming so don't use Excel.  I used to use it to sort the aircraft list which is 100% copy/paste compatible with Excel until the developers added the sort function to find the best aircraft(s) for my network.

Gate search results are not compatible to be pasted into Excel (unless you have brains but I don't :D ).  I use the rather mundane method of invading country by country, with the aid of google maps.

I simply guesstimate how many more of a certain aircraft I need as I reach the limit of the aircraft's capability.

General Chat / it is very tired edit nearly 100 routes daily

- Some people will require that you achieve route load equilibrium (100% all aircraft) as soon as possible. This is beneficial for all airlines actually, if you really look at it.

A "trick" I learned from Pacific, on my first round, was to avoid what I call the €1 dance. Very seldomly do I lower my fares by €1 and I absolutely despise those who do. Instead I try to find equilibrium price faster. If that means cutting prices by €20 or more at a time, so be it. The time I save editing routes I can spend creating new ones.

I also tend to have a few nasty surprises in store for those that either engage in constant €1 lowering or that wait until the last second to update all their routes.

Yep for me, it's not too hard to find the approximate equilibrium price so I really crash the prices down to it the moment competition enters.  I'm very pesky about this and mercilessly do it just for the sake of hitting 100.00%. :D  I've got a git doing the €1 dance but the equilibrium ("accelerated price drop" as I used to call it) strategy rules over the gits!

Second paragraph reminds me of my days in AE.

Has to be scripts.  Some games have a no-scripts rule while others like AE and AM don't.

Wish I knew programming!

General Chat / Concerning €1 Routes

Roffles.  An old goodie.  FCO-LAX.

In all seriousness, hope I can reduce my 3x+ frequency flights today when I get bigger aircraft delivered!

General Chat / Maintenance Cost
« on: May 15, 2008, 12:11:51 am »
It's perfect English.

I've done 10x FRA-LHR/FRA-CDG before with a 100 seat Boeing Stratocruiser many months ago.  It was more like EUR100 instead of something ridiculous like 500.  Just think how low real-world prices are: I flew LGW-VCE for £45 return in April.

Oh, I think it's only natural that my routes to bigger airports have more seats/frequencies.

You can accuse Cathay Pacific of cheating by flying HKG-LHR 4x a day yet only fly to Xiamen 3x a week.

I think we've digressed and the Irishman can turn the lock? :D

Anyone want to challenge this for the highest maintenance costs??

Maintenance Fees (Monthly) €211,707,555 €211,707,555

I don't mind it tho.  I still make close to half of a billion Euros a month after costs... 8)

Lusitana's the largest airline in the whole game and he disclosed a montly cost of EUR5.7billion

iranair, I'm a cheater then! :D  I have a "set" range of fares and ramp up my frequency/seats to reach my "target price".

General Chat / Best Trans-Atlantic Aircraft [W4]
« on: May 02, 2008, 11:29:43 am »
It really depends on how many seats you're looking at.  The A310-300 with 280 seats is worth considering and costs 30mill less than a 763ER.  The 763ER is a great plane though, if you need 350 seats!

(The AM staff really love cowpackers.  A310 with 280 seats is only possible with 9 abreast, while the 763ER with 350 seats needs 8-abreast!)

General Chat / Reporting of unfair play?
« on: May 01, 2008, 02:01:22 pm »
Well, AM does have multiple membership officers who deal with these things.  dktc is a machine who seems to stay on AM 12 hours a day!

Who knows, maybe multiworlds have stretched resources...

Edit: Was the 2x 0.5 rule scrapped?

General Chat / Best Aircraft in World 3
« on: April 30, 2008, 10:07:18 pm »
Multiple really.

F27-600 is a bargain starter and great for the smallest airports.
HS748E is the fastest cheap prop for the big cities.
F28-1000 is my fleet backbone as it offers the right capacity for my tiny base.  Pretty cheap as well.
Caravelle 10B is always lots of plane for the money but it doesn't suit me this round.
Caravelle S12 is not exactly best value for money (because of the 10B) but it's serving me very well as a "hub buster".  Takes only 24 days to build for 128 seats.

There's also one little gem of a plane which blows the 727-200 into oblivion.  Not fair to reveal the aircraft here because my "friend" voluntarily sold me three S12s cheap after my recommendation!

If I had to choose a single aircraft from the list, it has to be the Caravelle 10B.  Highly versatile aircraft and bloody cheap.
