Airline Reports / [W 2426] Trans African Airways
« on: September 04, 2012, 08:44:53 pm »
We are proud to present what will become the biggest airline in Africa, Trans African Airways!

Opening operations at Johannesburg Airport (O.R. Tambo), we are the biggest airline operating there with 304 daily passengers. But we won't stop there. We will expad as soon as we get our next airplane; we have now purchased a DHC-6 to complement our three DHC3 Otter. This will increase our capacity out from Johannesburg, earning us even more money!

We will also soon expand into new markets. We are looking at Cape Town or Durban.

Our long term plans include covering all of Africa, every single airport, leaving no community unserved.
Follow us here for more updates, as we continue our trip towards Africa's Favourite Airline!

General Chat / Good website hosting for a new VA
« on: September 04, 2012, 06:30:02 pm »
Hi there,

I am considering making a regional virtual airline in Denmark. But any virtual airline will need a website; so I'd like to ask you if you have any good (or bad) experiences with website hosting? Which hosting provider would you recommend? Is Google websites enough? I would prefer free hosting, but 1-3$ monthly is acceptable.

Thanks for your advice!

EDIT:
I have found a solution, thanks anyway to anybody interested!

Airline Branding Center / I make liveries - for you!
« on: August 23, 2012, 04:38:54 pm »
Hi everybody!

I am in the mood of making liveries right now, but I don't really want to make for my own airlines. I would love to make some great liveries, but it is hard to get inspiration. That is why I'm asking you to request a livery below, and I'll select a few of the best requests to transform into a livery. It is kind of a competition where the winners get their livery on any aircraft of their choice* and - if needed - a logo.

There is no time limit, as I will be making liveries regularly. Just be aware that I don't select all requests to make a livery! But I'm quite sure I will get tired of making liveries some day - I just don't know when ;)

Information that would be nice to know: airline name, geographic location, time era, service level (low-cost, regional, etc.), logo, preferred colours,  aircraft model(s), aircraft registration.
Not all of these informations need to be fulfilled, but the more, the better.

Airline Branding Center / [GIMP] Tutorial on liveries
« on: August 21, 2012, 02:20:49 pm »
Hi there!

I just felt like making a tutorial, so here comes:

Step 1
First, I copy the template (usually from Jetabout) and paste it into the newly opened GIMP. I make my aircraft transparent by going to Layers -> Transparency -> Colour to Alpha. Result is like this:

Step 2
I want my plane to look white again, so I add a background layer which is completely white:

Step 3
I add my colours to the drawing on a new layer below the aircraft layer, but above the background layer. Please note that it doesn't matter if you paint outside the aircraft. Why is explained later on.

Step 4
Note that I have to delete the painting around the windows, otherwise you would be able to see the colour through the windows. I usually do this when I'm finished with the painting to avoid retracing erased lines.

Step 5
On a new layer I copy the logo provided with the request - or create my own. I make it fit so it looks nice, and if it overlaps a window, I repeat step 4.

Step 6
I hide the logo and colour layers and add a new layer above all layers except the aircraft layer. On this layer I will draw my shadows by using the Blending tool. Play around by selecting different transitions and shades of grey. Remember to use white as one of your two colours. Please note that the engine cowlings are on a layer each.

Step 7
When you find the right shading make the layer transparent, then you will see this:

Step 8
It still looks kind of flat, so I decide to use the Blending tool again (on a new layer), but this time to add a shine on the top of the aircraft. I select another transition, and I get this, which looks much better.

Step 9 - done!
I still don't like how much of the aircraft has the same colour as the background, so I select the aircraft layer and fill out the area around the aircraft with a shade of blue. This will also automatically hide all previous errors (e.g. paint outside the aircraft), making the job look perfect.

Flight Simulators & Online Flying / [FSX] Any good CRJ or ERJ out there?
« on: August 14, 2012, 05:42:25 pm »
Hi!

I'm making my own little virtual airline in Denmark (using FSpassengers), and I want to expand my fleet. I'm looking for a good freeware CRJ100/200 and ERJ135/140/145 for my FSX, so if you have any recommendations, you are welcome to leave a reply below with a description and how to find the download.

Also, if you have any good light aircraft you'd like to share, feel free to post a link!

Thanks in advance!

Game Strategy / AM tutorial video
« on: May 07, 2012, 09:42:56 am »
Hi there,

I made a school assignment on Airline Mogul, and one of the products was this video. In the video I explain how you set up your airline and open your first route. I also explain the basics of aircraft purchase.

Would a video like this have helped you when you first joined AM? Is it too long? Should I make more videos? Thanks for your feedback, it helps a lot!

Oh, and sorry for the *cabbage* Danish accent :P

Flight Simulators & Online Flying / FSX add-on aircraft are grey
« on: May 02, 2012, 02:04:54 pm »
Hi!

My FSX is behaving weird after I re-installed it on my clean computer. I remembered to take a backup of my planes before formatting my computer, so I just copy-pasted my aircraft folder into the new FSX folder (together with effects and gauges). This includes the AI traffic I got from World of AI.

Now, the problem is that all the non-standard planes are grey - they have no texture. This includes *moving* AI planes, the static AI planes (parked aircraft) have their correct textures displayed.

Is there anything I can do other than re-installing all my aircraft and AI traffic? My computer has a clean install of Windows 7 and FSX (excluding the old planes, effects, gauges and scenery which worked well, and FSXpax). Thanks for any help, I appreciate it!

Flight Simulators & Online Flying / Soviet Supersonic Transatlantic
« on: March 13, 2012, 08:38:23 pm »
Hi!

As the title says, I'll combine the three best things in aviation: Long haul, Soviet planes and supersonic travel. To make it even more realistic, I flew from Moscow to Havana (and to subtract from the realism, I flew a plane painted in Qantas colours with in-flight refuelling :P )

Anyway, here is my report, with images and everything!

8:30: On the gate in Moscow, the doors have just closed and the engines are starting. You can see the nose and the canards deployed. The plane is heavily loaded with fuel for the almost 6000 mile flight.

Waiting for departure at runway 25L. Aeroflot is now flying with those modern European cans, my plane is better.

Full throttle with afterburners. The plane accelerated past 200 knots at the end of the runway - reached 100 in no time. Imagine the G's!

The beauty of this plane! Climbing to cruise level, fl400. It was meant to be fl550, but problems with the autopilot made me fly lower.

Sun is going down. Currently at Mach 2.05

And further down. Who would have thought to see the sunset just a couple of hours after sunrise?

Second sunrise today. I am flying above the Gulf of Mexico (between, descending towards Havana.

Yup, that's Cuba! I am lining up for rwy 6

What a beautiful aircraft, toogether with a Caribbean sunrise. Approaching Havana, but still at high speed - the canards are still retracted.

Lowering the nose while passing a Cuban Air Force base.

Almost there, almost there!

Touchdown!

Arrived at gate at 6:30 local time, after a flight time of around five hours.

I hope you enjoyed my sparse flight log. You are welcome to ask questions or comments.

Where should I go next? What Soviet plane to use?

Game Data / [Work in Progress] Flags of missing countries
« on: February 28, 2012, 08:54:03 pm »
Hi!

Continued from the other thread, I've made some flags. This thread is for discussing those flags.

This should be all.

Do they look like the flags in game (same style)?
- Curacao
- Iraq
- Kosovo
- Lesotho
- Libya
- Malawi
- Burma/Myanmar
- Sint Maarten
- South Sudan

Which look wrong, which look done?

Suggestions / More 'New Forum Posts' on the world home page
« on: February 13, 2012, 11:49:35 pm »
Hi!

In the worlds with many players, the in-game forum gets used a lot. As it isn't possible to see if there are new posts in a thread like in a normal forum, I use the index page to see what new posts there are in the forum. But it only shows the three newest posts, leaving many more posts unseen. I really like reading the airline news threads, when new posts arrive I like to just take a pause and read the new post.
I think adding a couple more posts on the index page will improve the in-game forum.

Thanks in advance :)

PS: how many times did I say 'posts'?

Bugs / [W2195] Hotswap bug
« on: February 04, 2012, 11:20:33 am »
Hi!

I believe there's a bug when hotswapping.
I select a plane to fly the route when hotswapping, and it tells me the correct amount of possible frequencies (3). But when I get to edit the ticket price, I get 6.5 freq. I select max freq, create the route, and now have a plane flying with -8:22 hours. I happened before with another aircraft, but I just edited the route, and the max frequency is the correct there.

Aircraft ID# 602
Route ID# 2624
Airline ID# 14837
World ID# 2195

I'll leave the route there for you to see what happened for a short while (it isn't even giving profit).

Bugs / [W2195] Double airport entry
« on: February 04, 2012, 09:55:29 am »
Hi!

Weeze and Niederrhein Airport is the same airport, but they are two distinct entries in the database.

ID#'s: 86 and 1158

GCmap has the exact same coordinates for both airports, but it seems weird that the same airport has two distinct entries on both AM and GCmap.a
