Secret is you could actually do that now, to a certain extent.

Pick an airport as your base. Then go to the rent gate page and browse. After you have made a decision, return all the gates at your base and close the base. Log out and then log back in. The game will prompt you to choose a base again since you don't have one (and yes, this is for free).

Do note that although you could change your base this way, you cannot change your base continent, so you need to have a general idea when you first select a base.

It really depends on your perspective.

If you are looking at buying aircrafts to lease out as an investment, you should always look at acquisition costs and period of return (IRR actually irl, but this is AM...).

Some people (like Matias) also takes lease terms into consideration. This is quite realistic, but would not work in AM. The reason being that AM does not have any early return penalty. It really does not guarantee that the lesee would not return within 6 months, even if the terms were 120 months.

I usually look at recouping the investment within 10-12 months.

Looking at the revenue is another way. That is exactly how your potential lessees would evaluate a lease. The issue with this method is that revenue on the same plane varies according to the hub/focus city it flies from, and the distance of routes it flies. You will end up with a range, rather than a rate.
And of course, in the above example, you would not be leaving any profit for the lessee, and thus there will be little incentive for anyone to lease your aircraft. If you use this method, you need to make sure your base (benchmark) is set appropriately. That means your base should have similar number of pax as with the majority of airports the other players in your word base / hub in. Then, you need to decide how large a share of profit you want to allow the lessee to keep.

And fyi, in AM, leasing planes out will always yield a lower return than flying them (assuming you do them in large scale).

737-500 usually goes at about 3 to 4 mil per month... back when I ran huge brokerage business. (So yes, it doesn't make sense to lease in/out larger planes.)

But then, it is relatively safe to say the followings...
- avg aircraft age increases => maintenance cost increases
- total aircraft value increases => maintenance cost increases

At this time, you cannot see the maintenance for each individual aircraft. In fact, your mx is calculated as a whole.

The best way to set a leasing price is based on acquisition cost. That is (or at least should be) one of the evaluation potential lessee will use when they look at the market.

The best way to set a sell price is based on the value of the aircraft. That is what the potential buyer will look at for the most part.

Of course you could get a premium at start of a world, but this generally works.

Or, another way would be to look at the aircraft market for comparable aircrafts, if the market in your world is active.

This has been discussed amongst staff before, but we are still open, largely, to new arguments.

We see the logical sense that airlines launching in 60's / 70's would likely not use the same launching aircraft as those launching in 40's.

On the other hand, how do we ensure that everyone starts on a fair playing field in the same world, regardless of era? Assuming that the 40's starter aircraft is obsolete in the 60's, shall we use something that has the same configuration (ie. still obsolete), or something more suitable in the 60's (ie. a better plane than those who started in the 40's used)?

Part of the misc exp is the food and drinks served, and as a rule, the whole exp is related to the number of pax you fly.

This is a suggestion that we have discussed among staff members before, and really haven't totally discounted it. The main hurdles are...
- Getting the year data as the traffic changes
- Implementing the switch of airport codes (and how they reflect on the maps)
- Researching all the opening and closing dates
- Possibility of transferring routes to a replacement airport, without the needs to recreate all the routes (and what is the criteria behind this...)

The other thing is of course that such a database would be of high value. Some consultants are selling these types of data and we really don't want to spend all the efforts just to be stolen (or worse.... "borrowed" for other similar games...)

First, this is not a bug.
Second, you will continue to get paid the lease rate, even if they go inactive (and/or negative in cash), until the lease duration is up.

That said, why do you "need" them to return the leased planes?

Just want to make sure... after you have selected a continent, and the airport box changed to "loading...". After that, does it change to anything or is it blank?
I am sure you know if it switch back to "select an airport", simply click on the box to see the list. Is that showing up?

Also, what browser are you using?

So 2010 is reasonably recent, with source being published 2011. ;)

Gate rental is prepaid at the beginning of a game month. That means it is logged into entry of the finance statement on the first of the month.

In terms of projection, it will be listed as an expense to the end of the month (because you already paid for the use of that month).

In terms of cash flow, you will not be charged at the beginning of the next game month.

Return the gates on 24th of the month, to get the max out of it.

The first is the appraised value (ie. the plane should be worth €2,787,143)

The second is the book value (ie. €922,632 is the value shown on the asset section of the balance sheet of D Express, calculated from the purchasing price, less depreciation)

Also want to add that if you look at the cash on 24th, the rev from the 24th is not added in yet.
If you look at the cash on 1st, the pre-paid costs of the next month would be charged.

Plus, the projection can only assume that your rev and exp don't change, but often times, that would not be the case.
