Bugs / [Fixed] Batch removal of planes from leasing fails
« on: November 03, 2008, 09:12:40 pm »
Removing planes from the leasing market does not work unless it's done one by one. Selecting a few at a time and using the "Remove from lease" button results in a SQL error:

Code: [Select]
Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /var/www/vhosts/airlinemogul.com/httpdocs/airlinemogul/aircraft_market.php on line 691
This on top of a previously reported error where lease conditions cannot be changes:

Code: [Select]
Putting plane up for public lease.
Unknown column 'lease_to' in 'field list'
There was a problem when updating the lease terms.

Happening in World 14, Airline 8585.

Should i have create one more base on Japan or Foreigen country.

Creating a new base is quite expensive for a small airline and you still have a lot of room to grow from Narita. If I were you, I'd extend my network from NRT a little further and would consider a new base only a few days down the line.

When time comes to expand your bases, staying close to Tokyo is a good idea since it allows you to use all those gates you're already renting. If you move too far you'll have to start renting gates everywhere. I'd leave the decision of Asian vs foreign bases until much later on, by the time you already have 4 bases in Asia.

i just Bought 5 DCH-6-200 what should i do with them?

What a strange question! ;)

You should set up new routes with them, of course! ;D

It's there. Look for VVO or UHWW. Russia. Europe.

Yep, Europe!

can i put this info in manual on wiki ?

If you would, that'd be great. :)

aircraft cycles and airframe hours are just for referance or help understand about

mechanical failures or need for service ?

I believe currently those are only for reference. From Stephen's comments, I think an overhaul of the maintenance system is in the works and, in the future, airframe hours and cycles may become an important driver behind maintenance costs, as they should. Also, or so we hope, will fleet commonality be considered.

Anyway, this is what I think. Stephen will correct me if I'm wrong.  ;)

That is the time, in hours, that a specific aircraft model will take to fly that route round-trip (i.e., frequency = 1.0).

If you see, for instance, 4.80, that means 4 hours and 48 minutes.

Each plane can fly 24 hours a day. How many hours each of your planes has "free" is shown under the column "Hours" in the "View aircraft" screen. Just be aware that the number shown there is rounded up or down to the nearest whole hour. So, a plane with 0.6 hours would show as 1 hour free. This can be misleading. Assume half an hour less than what is shown and you'll be safe.

So, say you have an aircraft showing 4 hours free. If you research a route and, for that plane type, it shows a block time of up to 3.5 hours, you could rent the needed gates and set up the route.

Do you have a nameless aircraft or is it a problem with the page? ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong though, but as long as your retained earnings remain above 0, there's not really any problem is there?

I can see it going below zero without beeing much of a problem. You would have had a negative cash-flow but, as long as the money went into something you could sell (i.e., planes), bankrupcy wouldn't necessarily be around the corner.

I should also note that this screen does not take into account (pun intended) marketing expenses. (BTW, why not??)

As pseudoswede said, the projected (at the end of month) profit (or loss) in the regular finances page will probably be of much better use. Use the Operations Dept report only to get a better understanding of where your money is coming and going to.

But no, it's not a very good thing if your retained earnings keep consistently going down. Keyword here being "consistently." When you rent a gate or pay market research to create/edit a route, it's natural for your airline value to go slightly down. As long as that expense allows you to earn more money in the future, it's quite alright.

So, as you suspect, switching gates may explain part of your value loss.

Also, be aware that monthly expenses are payed on the first of each month. These will be gate rental, aircraft maintenance and, if you have them, lease rates. It's normal for your airline value to go down at the start of each month. Again, look at the finances page. If your "month to date" totals are negative but projected totals are in the black, you should be alright.

Now, I'd like to comment on your strategy so far. Perhaps you are making the same "mistakes" most of us did when we started playing (I know I did). You had two routes already established and quit those to set a couple more at somewhat high frequencies. When you offer fewer seats on a route you will be able to charge higher fares. If, instead of flying 3x daily to Palembang and 2.5x to Yogyakarta you would stay at 1x frequency on each route, you could raise your prices and set up new routes with the same plane. You might be serving a similar number of pax but, since they would be paying you higher, your profits would probably go up.

P.S. - You still keep 2 gates at Jakarta but are using only one (each gate is good for 10 slots or frequencies). Unless you're planning on using the extra capacity very soon, you'd better give back one of the gates. This way, you won't be paying for the unused capacity. Just don't do it if you're planning on using the gate in the next month, otherwise you would be renting it again, paying the same.

Does foreign base means a base out of your initial continent or out of your initial country ?

Continent.

Gate rent x 60. If, say, one gate costs 300,000€ then the cost to create a base would be 60*300K = 18,000,000€.

That on top of the needed 4 gates, in case you don't have them already.

In W14, at the A/C Market entry page, there are 2 planes shown under leasing deals. These a/c don't seem to be available to the public (and clicking on "Buy" does nothing). Is this a bug?

Aircraft IDs are 2947 and 275.

View Aircraft page has the toggle all rows, let me know if it suits/doesn't suit. I changed it so that the + changes to a - on clicking.

Yes. I think that helps a lot. It's far easier to see at a glance what aircraft belong to each fleet, for instance. :)

The trouble with information on secondary lines is that the listing is no longer sortable by those columns.

Not that placing ALL of the info on the same line made for a very interesting display. I, for one, absolutely hated the way all lines had to be wrapped with the old interface. So, I'd say the change was for the better.

Still, it's a shame some functionality had to be lost. Perhaps if it would be possible to...

1) Add a button that would expand all records at the same time;

2) Display a secondary heading for the columns in the second line and make them sortable.

Also, I miss having time to delivery on the a/c list. Perhaps a single number between parenthesis (as before) after the "On order" string wouldn't ruin the display too much?
