Bugs / Aircraft Range Unit consistency...
« on: July 21, 2009, 07:22:55 pm »In the select engine page however, everything is written down as Nautical Miles, which is even more confusing. For example, the longest ranged variant of the A340-300 states "8510nm". However, no A343 has 8510nm range...but they actually have approx 8510mi in the real-world.
Same goes for the 777-200 with the RR Trents 895s, 8820nm is 772LR territory, but 8820mi would make sense...
etcetc...
General Chat / [POLL] What do you think of the New Forum?
« on: August 07, 2008, 02:24:15 pm »Edit: Since there was nothing in the title to tell people this is a poll, unlike more civilised forums...whoops, I think I just gave my vote away!

« on: August 06, 2008, 03:09:50 pm »We saw veterans and former #1 players all basing themselves in Chicago O'hare and them moving onto ATL. These were:
Asylum Freight
Brokerage House
Doraemon Airlines
Europacific Air
Optimum Airlines
Asylum Freight quickly emerged to be the best starter as he built up a significant lead in as #1 in the overall rankings. However, we also saw the surprise rise of Ostermalm Airlines, who is going all-out chasing down Asylum Freight. The results of the battle was pure carnage, with peoples' average loadfactors dropping over 10% in a matter of 12 hours. At time of writing, Europacific hasn't seem to have been online for 24 hours, and his loadfactor has dipped below 60%.
Europe initially saw the rise of Test Airline who bizarrely purchased 100 Vardax Aero-Hotters. daklines is back to his triangulation strategy in megahubs, while we also see the return of Mo Mo Rabbit Airlines and ALFC. Dakota Airlines currently leads the field in Europe but the margin is being eroded by Mo Mo Rabbit and ALFC, while at the same time, these two airlines are in the middle of a very bitter battle at CDG. Load factors have also been hit very badly in the Megahubs of Europe, although Mo Mo Rabbit seems to have found an efficient way of keeping his loads high.
Interesting times ahead. My mid-term predictions are Asylum for N.America/Overall and ALFC for Europe.

« on: January 15, 2008, 10:39:22 pm »Take a look at the most successful airline in Europe. They are called "Ryanair" who offers cheap €0.02 routes everywhere they fly! This airline sees high load factors and is popular with the people. It is the "peoples airline" because it is so affordable. They just opened their 25th base (in Birmingham) and have over 100 Boeing 737-800s on order.
If AM is to be "realistic" as people call for greater realism, we should be allowed to have at the bare mininum, 25 bases where we can fly out of. Even better would be unlimited bases. The mininum price should also be reduced to €0 with price increments to €0.01.
/end sarcasm.
General Chat / The Accelerated Price Drop strategy
« on: January 13, 2008, 01:20:23 pm »When faced with €1 undercut "bug" scenario, undercut in increments of €20 or over instead of €1.
For hardcore players:
Recently, I tinkered around with €1 fares because I was bored - but I learnt something significant from it. The base demand for passengers between 2 airports actually increases the lower the prices go. So despite the €1 undercutting, an equilibrium will eventually be reached. So to reduce the effort resetting the same routes over and over again, start undercutting by €20 or more so that the equilibrium is reached quickly, instead of painfully €1 by €1.
Since an equilibrium price exists where everyone can have 100% LF, I consider the €1 price elasticity "bug" to actually not exist.

General Chat / While we wait for the reset, testing continues!
« on: December 18, 2007, 05:41:30 pm »You can see we were having some fun!
The AM team is hard at work to bring forward new features and to stay ahead of the competition. May the future of AM be bright!
General Chat / What year do you want the next round to be?
« on: December 17, 2007, 07:22:56 pm »But anyway, if the game were to reset a week, what era would you want the next round to start?
Off the top of my head, typical aircraft available are:

Regionals: Ford Trimotor
Longhaul: The Pan Am Clippers?
1960s:
Regionals: Comet/727/Tu134/BAC1-11
Longhauls: B707/DC-8/VC-10/IL-62
Max Range: VC-10, 5,850miles/9,360km
1970s:
Regionals: DC-9/B737/Fokker
Longhauls: B747/DC-10/L-1011
Max Range: 747SP 6,650nm/7,650miles/12,325km
General Chat / BROKERS - Advice to airlines using them.
« on: December 15, 2007, 02:00:38 am »There are 4 official brokers in AirlineMogul, and many more "unofficial" ones.
Fact 1: The unofficial brokers are more expensive than the official brokers.
Fact 2: The unofficial brokers order planes from the official brokers.
Fact 3: Combining the above 2 facts means an unofficial broker is simply a middleman who charges commission.
Fact 4: It is possible to order planes through the official @ -10%. (*edited by dktc*)
Fact 5: *an official broker* offers 7%* off, which is still cheaper than the typical 5% discount you get from unofficial brokers.
Fact 6: Unofficial brokers become useful when order books for the official brokers are full.
So for the best deals, use the official brokers!

General Chat / How nice the community is here!
« on: December 08, 2007, 11:05:14 pm »1. I'm feeling rather irritated right now, having quit another MMOG (the Warbook app on Facebook) due to the high levels of immaturity and lack of brains/logic of a significant minority of players.
2. I play another MMOG called "Darkthrone" which the forums are full of immaturity and (f)lamers. At lease I seem to be able to "opt-out" which is very lucky.
3. The MSN Gaming Zone when it existed also had its fair share of immature people to make the experience bad enough.
4. The "blue" game had it's share of flamers and unpleasantaries.
5. The "blue and white" game had an admin who allegedly cheated and who never cracked down on multiple 1x flights (similar problem to the current AM script).
So, very well done on the AM community for keeping the place almost flame-free and rude name-calling! It's actually a little bit boring being a moderator in such a civilised forum, and may it stay that way!
