General Chat / Negative hours
« on: September 08, 2013, 07:53:34 pm »
I thought it was worthwhile to bring the discussion in the Maintenance World to the membership at large. Here's what's been posted in the topic so far.

How come some aircraft can fly more than 24 hours? How many people are doing this to cheat?

If you are suspecting people of cheating, please send us a message with the details of the problem.

Hi Matias:

I don't want to be a rat. What I can tell you is, one of the larger airlines creates multiple routes at very low prices.  There is no way that those routes create a profit.  I can confirm this, because when I use the same prices and frequencies, I come up with a loss.  I do know for a fact, that there is a glitch, that allows you to fly more than 24 hours.  I don't know how it work, but it has happened on two of my aircraft.

Confirm, there is a possibility to create negative hours. I've noticed this long time ago. I don't do that becouse its cheating. Please check the top airlines.  They buy hundrets of jumbojets and create short routes to small airports for almost nothing with no profit just to kill opponents.  They destroy the idea of game! I'm sure Admin has access to every acount in the game. Please check this out.  BTW Negative hours should be fixed as soon as possible.

Suggestions / Monthly profit
« on: August 28, 2013, 01:07:06 am »
Now that it's possible to see what a plane's individual monthly maintenance cost is, can the airplane page be modified to show what a plane's total monthly profit is? That way, we can know when a plane is close to needing replacement.

I'll preface this post by stating that I don't fault any of the other players in the game because what they're doing is completely legal. They're not doing anything wrong. My blame lays with the game itself.

Airline Mogul - See my airline

That's my airline in the maintenance world. As it stands right now, I have two bases - Chicago and Atlanta. I'm the 18th largest airline in the world and I experience a lot of competition thanks to one particular airline, Cabot Air, though of course I do deal with other competitors at the same time. Once again, the blame for this problem does not lay with the player.

Anyway, my issue is with what happens when I compete. Because Cabot Air is so much larger, the player who runs that airline can afford to take bigger hits. They can dramatically drop their prices well below what would be necessary to restore their route loadfactor to 100%, and I have to drop mine accordingly. This, obviously, is not fair. It's absolutely ridiculous that the game forces me to take a similar hit to my profits as the larger airlines when I am not as well-equipped to handle such a price drop as they are. Furthermore, there have been multiple occasions where I have had to adjust in excess of 50-100 routes at one time. This is a very time-consuming task. Really, the profit calculations need to be adjusted to insulate against these kinds of things. I shouldn't have to adjust 100 different routes every day to get my loadfactor back up to 100%.

As for a solution, I'm not sure how the game could be adjusted to do that. I'm still thinking of a way to best solve that problem. However, it is a problem nonetheless.

On a slightly less important note, does anyone know why my route map won't display? It's something to do with a flight originating from Chicago, because I can neither see the main route map nor the individual Chicago map, but I can view the individual Atlanta map. I'm nowhere near the threshold for the map not displaying, as I'm flying fewer than 200 routes, and usually even the routes that don't display on their own (i.e. the airports that lack an ICAO code) don't cause the main map to refuse to display.

Game Strategy / How to climb the hill

I have a problem.

Whenever I play AM, I'm always quite successful. My airlines are regularly top 15 in airline value in public worlds but I can never seem to be as successful as the big-time players.

Airline Mogul - See my airline

There's my airline in the maintenance formula test world. What am I doing wrong?

General Chat / New maintenance
« on: August 09, 2013, 06:59:06 pm »
So, with this new maintenance formula that is being tested in the Public World, what changes can we expect for AM in the future?

Conventional wisdom in the game right now holds that planes costing more than 200M euros or seating more than 300 passengers aren't worth it because the maintenance is too high, and large jet aircraft should be replaced after a year of usage.

Obviously neither of those are true in the real world. Airlines fly large planes just fine for more than just a year at a time. How will the new maintenance formula affect things? Can I finally take the step up to buying 747s? This is especially important for early 2000s games since IMHO the best long-haul option is the 7672ER (since it fits within the parameters above) and that one is no longer manufactured after the mid-2000s.

Game Data / Having some gate issues
« on: October 18, 2012, 09:11:41 pm »
I'm in Public World 2444.

Airline Mogul - See my airline

I keep a detailed record of my purchased gates in an Excel spreadsheet.

I'm running into a problem. According to that spreadsheet, my monthly gates cost should be 70,612,500. However, in the game, it comes out to 70,662,500. I don't know where the 50,000 discrepancy came from. Is there anyone who might be willing to give my spreadsheet a look over to see what I've done wrong? The spreadsheet does track total number of routes so I know I'm not missing a 50,000 gate somewhere. I just can't figure it out.

General Chat / Early game gate rentals
« on: September 18, 2012, 09:49:19 pm »
Can you please change how gate rentals in the pre-game period work? I just joined the newest public world. I'm based at London Heathrow and I've bought gates at    Biggin Hill, London City, London Gatwick, London Luton, London Stansted and Manchester. Altogether, flights from Heathrow to those airports take a combined four hours. That means my plane is sitting idle for 20 hours out of the day because the absolutely ridiculous rental system means I can't buy any more gates since I won't earn any money for the 24 hours until the game starts. I should be able to buy more gates in the pre-game period so I can fill my plane's time.

Bugs / [NaB] Game map errors
« on: July 01, 2012, 08:47:48 am »
I'm in Public World 2335 and the map is not correct for the year of the game. It's in 1997 and the map still depicts a Cold War Eurasia with a unified Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia. Strangely enough, Germany is also unified.

Also, there's only one Russian airport, though considering the game world is Asia-Australasia-Middle East, there should be a lot of Russian airports. GCM shows the sole Russian airport as somewhere near Indonesia.

Suggestions / Emails about public worlds
« on: June 29, 2012, 12:43:45 am »
Is there any chance the game could send out notification emails when there is a new public world about to open up? I hate missing the chance to get in on the ground floor of a public world that interests me.

Perhaps the email could include the world's info, like starting aircraft, continents, etc. etc.

Suggestions / Two suggestions
« on: June 12, 2012, 05:01:23 am »
It's not as much of an issue for the standard 10-year public worlds, but if a player joins a long-term private world later in the game, they might be outclassed with the starting aircraft. Maybe it should be possible to set the starting aircraft to change every set number of years (either five or ten) so players who come in late won't start with such an outdated aircraft.

My other suggestion is related to continents. Would it be possible to have an option where continents can be set to arrivals only? I'm currently in the Asia/Australasia/Middle East public world and I was thinking of what it would be like to have US markets available in that game. However, to keep the game As/Au/ME-centric, if North America was available, it would be arrival only and you could only fly to that continent, not from it. Would it be possible to implement that as an option when choosing continents during world setup?

Game Data / A couple of Middle East issues
« on: March 07, 2012, 01:47:00 am »
I'm looking over my chart of the Middle East gates I own in #2208, and there seems to be a couple of inconsistencies.

First of all, gates in Abu Dhabi cost 100,000. However, it has more passengers than Kuwait (along with quite a few others) yet Kuwait (along with quite a few others) costs more (150,000) than Abu Dhabi.

IATA   Airport Name   Gates   Cost
AUH   Abu Dhabi International   72   €100,000
ICAO   Passengers   Cargo   Country
OMAA   9,020,000   862,172    United Arab Emirates

IATA   Airport Name   Gates   Cost
KWI   Kuwait International Airport   128   €150,000
ICAO   Passengers   Cargo   Country
OKBK   8,125,617   197,214    Kuwait

The same issue arises with Tblisi, except the other way around. It has fewer passengers than Bandar Abbas and other 50,000 airports, yet gates at Tblisi cost 100,000.

IATA   Airport Name   Gates   Cost
BND   Bandar Abbas   39   €50,000
ICAO   Passengers   Cargo   Country
OIKB   772,775   4,067    Iran, Islamic Republic of

IATA   Airport Name   Gates   Cost
TBS   Tbilisi International   94   €100,000
ICAO   Passengers   Cargo   Country
UGTB   615,230   1    Georgia

Bugs / [NaB] GCM error
« on: February 28, 2012, 09:00:04 pm »
In Public World 2208, researching routes to a lot of airports in Iran doesn't work. The research instead automatically shows up as a route to Gorgan.

I assume this is an error with GCM, as the airports in question don't seem to show up on the map. Is there any way this can be fixed here or is it solely something with GCM? Also, isn't there a new version of GCM out?

Game Data / Caravelle passenger capacities
« on: February 22, 2012, 08:24:24 pm »
The 10B's capacity should be 105, not 104, and the 12's capacity should be 140, not 128, as per this, which cites a book which I don't have which presumably states the correct statistics.

Game Data / Cyprus
« on: February 21, 2012, 07:12:16 am »
Wikipedia says it's included in the traditional definition of the Middle East, and since it is southeast of Istanbul, which is in the Middle East in the game, shouldn't the island be in the Middle East?

General Chat / Public World #2208 - Egypt
« on: February 14, 2012, 06:19:38 am »
The world is supposed to be Middle East only, yet the map includes six airports in Egypt. Why are these available when Egypt is listed under Africa in other worlds?
