Private World Discussion & Invitation / Proposed new world
« on: January 02, 2009, 11:35:45 pm »
Okay, well I don't want to end up playing alone so here's my proposal-once I have all slots full I shall create this world. This world will focus on fun and realism rather than being number one on the rankings. Players assume the identity of a real airline and develop their airliners in any way they would like.

World Name: Yourefired's quickie world
World ID: PW #333 (Name: Private World 300-something)
Current year: Starting Jan 1, 2001
Years left: 7 years
End Date: Dec 24, 2008
Max Amount of Players (Spots available): 18 (3 North America, 3 Europe, 4 Asia, 2 each, all other continents)+2 slots for brokers
Max Bases: 20, 20 foreign
Starting Aircraft: None
Starting Cash: €2,000,000,000
Password Needed: Yes
Range of Map: Full World
World Link: N/A

World Terms and Conditions:
It will be commercial aircraft only, and no more than three airlines will be allowed to base at any airport at any time. At airports of below 25 million passengers, two and at airports of below 10 million passengers, only one. All airlines are required to base at at least one airport of below 10 million passengers and one of below 25 million passengers, and are limited no more than two bases at airports of €300,000 and above. If any official brokers are wililng to join and help out, as a reward they will be awarded an additional €15,000,000 per year for brokering expenses, and in exchange, brokers will be allowed to operate no more than 300 routes and be limited to two airports €250,000 and above and a maximum of seven bases. Brokers will be subsidized whenever necessary. "Interest rates" or markup for brokered aircraft is capped at 36% on an annualized basis. Airlines are limited to two frequencies, but total capacity on any route for any airline is limited to the number of seats equal to 1/500 of the average cost of the two airports or 700 seats, whichever is less, and limited to 5,000 seats for all airlines. Total capacity is equal to the number of seats on aircraft times two times frequency. This rule can be waived on a case by case basis, or by consent of competitors. Any airline in need of cash to cover operating expenses will be subsidized to the break-even point, upon request. All routes and bases are first come, first serve. Routes under 75 miles or within the same metropolitan area are prohibited under any circumstances. Rules will be strictly enforced and airlines will be regularly audited to ensure compliance.

Violators will be dealt with swiftly and harshly. Anytime an alleged violation is reported or caught, the airline involved will be warned (corrective action will be recommended) and be placed on probation for 72 hours real time. The airline will be given a chance to appeal the ruling or take corrective action. Should the offending airline choose to appeal in writing, a randomly selected jury of members will review the appeal and decide to either clear the airline or uphold the original ruling. Appeal decisions are final and cannot be appealed. If the airline does not take either action within the probationary period, punitive action will be taken against the airline and affected airlines will be given compensation. Punitive action will be proportional to the seriousness of the offense, and include a probationary period of between 6 months game time to 36 months game time. IF within the probationary period the airline is found guilty of a second offense, the airline will be banned.

I'll be taking questions/comments/slot reservations now.

General Chat / I hate exam week

So I'm sitting in the library at 2 in the morning trying to focus on studying except I'm either too tired or distracted to study. Time to get some caffeine :(

General Chat / Maintenance Cost

How is it possible that I only added 3 airplanes to my fleet only to see my maintenance costs jump 20 million euros?

Bugs / What the hell?
« on: May 04, 2008, 10:13:23 pm »
I don't know if this is a script bug or if it's just that my laptop is temperamental, but every time I try to edit a route firefox crashes and I have to restart it (12 times!).

Probably not a problem with my temperamental laptop (although I admit my laptop is temperamental) but it worked fine until 10 minutes ago....

Not just firefox, safari freezes up too.

Bugs / Flight editing (W6)
« on: April 27, 2008, 06:44:53 am »
So my load factors fell off a cliff aboard the DC9-40s because the seating capacity was changed, and now I can't edit my flights. I can't edit any of my DC9-40 flights ouf of JFK. I had a SAN-MSP flight that was on the same plane that the JFK-MSP flight was on, and I was able to edit that just fine, but I can't get the 5 I listed below edited.

Flight numbers:
I0X14903 JFK-DEN
I0X16249 JFK-Little Rock
I0X14971 JFK-MEM
I0X12444 JFK-MSP
I0X12439 JFK-DFW

Equipment: DC9-40 in all cases.

I just get this message: "You either selected no aircraft, or selected an invalid aircraft. Please go back and try again."

Game Data / A340-300E
« on: April 23, 2008, 07:53:06 am »
I know it doesn't affect anyone in the public worlds (yet), but the A340-300E was evidently delivered to Singapore Airlines in 1996, not 2004.

When is multiclass seating coming along? I'm getting bored of this all economy setup.

My concorde's Aircraft ID is 4590. Um, ominous much?

Petty little detail, but nevertheless kind of freaky.

Though what would really be a freaky coincidence is if it had ID 4590, my airline was named Air France, and I sent it to CDG from JFK and the flight number happened to be  4590.

Bugs / W6 I don't think I was credited for an airplane sale

I sold a Beech C99 for 1,550,000 but I don't think it was credited to my cash balance.

Bugs / W6 game's frozen at July 20
« on: April 12, 2008, 09:17:04 am »
Okay so it's 15 minutes after the hourly rollover and we're stuck at 20 july 1981. Perhaps a server error?

I tried logging out and logging back in 3 times. Didn't work.

So I joined the FT alliance in world 6, and I can't seem to start any flights out of my alliance partners' routes. I've been admitted to the alliance already.

Bugs / I'm missing money again
« on: April 11, 2008, 01:23:55 pm »
I'm missing money, but now to the tune of 3 million euros.

My cash flow log doesn't balance by the way......

It seems like at every monthly rollover money goes missing. Last monthly rollover it was about 1.1 million, and this monthly rollover it's about 3 million (next thing you know it may be 10 million). I had about 11.5 million euros before the rollover and the finance page shows an operating loss of 10,248,071 euros to date. I'm supposed to have a 1 million euros left+change cash balance, but now I have a -1,508,018 cash balance.

I didn't broker anything at the rollover, bought a Gulfstream for 12 million but that was at about 7AM. Could someone check my financial records (I'm sure it's logged on a computer somewhere-it should be able to be done without suspending the account) and check up on this?

General Chat / Independence Air Aircraft naming contest
« on: April 10, 2008, 11:56:29 pm »
Okay guys, I'm totally stuck on what to name the planes in my operational fleet, so I'm going to defer to the public here.

NAMC YS11-A500
N200IX-operational
N201IX-operational
N202IX-operational
N203IX-operational

Gulfstream III
N210IX-operational
N211IX-operational
N212IX-(brokered, deliverable June 2nd)
N213IX-operational
N214IX-(brokered, deliverable July 1st)

McDonnell Douglas DC9-40
N050IX-(on order, deliverable June 16th)
N051IX-(on order, deliverable July 9th)

Designation:
N001IX-N049IX: Concorde (planned)
N050IX-N199IX: Mainline fleet
N200IX-N300IX: Regional fleet

Name away.

Game Data / DC9-40

Apparently, it's supposed to hold 125 seats, not 90.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC9
http://www.boeing/com/commercial/airports/acaps/dc9sec2.pdf (page 16, 2.4.1 interior arrangements)

If you look at the citations and take a look at the PDF of the specifications from Boeing/McDonnell Douglas, it says 125. And I'm not just saying that because I'm planning to operate them.

General Chat / Great Circle Mapper vs. Research Route
« on: April 10, 2008, 07:04:57 am »
I noticed that there are significant discrepancies....I know we use GCM for distances and such, but I noticed something odd:

JFK-HNL is 4330nm according to GCM, 4983 statutory miles.
JFK-HNL on Research route is 4981nm.

JFK-SFO is 2247nm according to GCM, 2586 statutory miles.
JFK-SFO on research route is 2583nm.

JFK-LHR is 2999nm according to GCM, 3451 statutory miles.
JFK-LHR on research route is 3446nm.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or just a miscalculation or something, but it's kind of odd to have such a huge difference. Perhaps you entered in the distance in statutory miles rather than nautical miles and then marked it as nautical miles?

If you guys meant to do that, that's fine. But I almost always use GCM before using research route and then I'm just kind of surprised to see the differences.
