General Chat / Is the wiki/manual down?
« on: February 10, 2013, 03:11:58 am »
I can't seem to find it and I have a question regarding aircraft range.

So the aircraft pages all have a range listed, but not what exactly that range is (I'm more worried about US miles versus Nautical Miles)?

Now, on the premium gate search page, ranges are listed with NM, which stands for nautical miles. Can I assume that means any range listed on Airline Mogul will always default to Nautical Mile?  :-\

Folks; we've been waiting for quite some time for this. The fact that a Beta version is in one world and being tested right now is excellent news...news that should galvanize our patience. Stephen and fellow crew are listening to us and working for us, not against us. This will be here before we know it.

Airline Branding Center / Re: GIMP question...
« on: October 16, 2011, 10:50:47 pm »
I use Adbobe Photoshop CS5, although I used to use paint.NET (free) and I'd be happy to write up any tutorials on how to use it.

The more, the merrier. I appreciate all those folks out there freely offering their services to create liveries for others, but I'm of the ilk of "I'll do it myself".

By the way, '93matias, thanks for the great post. I'll be sure to try it out in a few days once I pass this upcoming deadline. The life of free-lance work. Thanks again, folks!

Airline Branding Center / GIMP question...
« on: October 14, 2011, 08:13:50 pm »
It's been a while since I've been on the AM...much less on the forum, but I seem to recall some members using GIMP. Why? I assume because it was cheap (free) and somewhat easy to use. Now, I'm a drafter by trade; I understand layers, freezing them, thawing, etc etc...but for some stupid reason the layers on GIMP plumb evade me.

I've used Corel Paintshop Pro X in the past (and yes, I know it has layers as well...but again...I just can't seem to get the program to do what I want. In the image below, I just painstakingly painted betwixt the lines as I like the fuselage panels showing...makes it more realistic it seems-

Now on the next drawing (shamelessly showing MrOrange's image...thank you, and I'll remove it if asked)-

You still see the fuselage panels, yet they're..."colored in" in a sense? Does it make sense it what I'm saying? I remember from several livery threads several members saying they accomplish the above by using layers in GIMP, but I can't figure it out. I also seem to remember it takes them maybe 10-20 minutes to do a livery instead of several hours. Does anyone care to share how exactly they go about it?

Thanks for any and all response(s).

Game News / Re: New Message Center - Launched!
« on: August 23, 2011, 06:26:46 am »
Great addition, although when seriously is hotswap going to be released? I will put all my twopence on the fact that the game has lost players due to the lack of swapping old aircraft, especially with the cost of maintenance
Not to be OT or rain on the parade, as the new messaging system is definitely an improvement....but this hotswap option hopefully is being looked into during your spare time.

I was about to uh...chide you on your "I suppose" but you edited it. Thanks.  ;)

There's one problem with the 737 (other than fuselage width), and it all comes back to the landing gear length.

10
Whoa Airbii fanboy. What happens when Boeing launches the 797 which offers 10% more efficiency than the NEO? Then what can we aviation nerds argue about?  ;)

Yes I'm an American and will always lean towards the American company (the A320 is a superior narrowbody FWIW), but this 737RE versus the A320NEO is ludicrous. You're talking about fairings for the landing gear and winglets and so on and so forth. Boeing knows about where the NEO will come in at, and knows they have to match that with the 737RE or they should just forget the idea and launch new. They also know they're far behind the 8-ball with the NEO's massive order book, so they have to get it right (ala the 777, NOT the 787).

Engines have all but reached maximum efficiency (all but are the key two words...the geared fan that is coming into play now is all but the final leg when it comes to burning fossil fuels). It's either time to lighten the fuselage (787/A350 are the first attempts, but I'm not sold yet until I see them in service for a good 5-10 years), or finally push for a new power source (cough Hydrogen cough).

Alliances / Re: TransSky Alliance (PW 1991)

Whoops...didn't see this...I already posted in the TransSky thread in the world itself.

What I posted there-

Quote
Sorry that I haven't been too active of late, folks of TransSky Alliance. Getting married in...t-minus 2.5 weeks now. Life has been hectic to say the least. I'll attempt to be more of a team player, but I can't make too many promises until mid-August.

RE America Flight- Maybe (if you're established enough) and he won't axe his old alliance flights, it's time to dump your fares on said routes. Yes it's mean-spirited, possibly against the rules, and obviously they can read this, but why not? If you're going to split and run, at least have the courtesy to pull your flights.

Oh, and Jetaway International Airways, welcome to Tornoto and Vancouver. However, those parking spaces that say "King of Toronto" and King of Vancouver"...they aren't yours. Sorry for the uh...swapping of the Blue Juice for Blue Koolaid retaliation. My rampers were in no means suggested to get even.

Game Strategy / Re: Long haul or not?
« on: July 21, 2011, 06:14:54 am »
Why aren't you flying to cities the other hub already has routes to? "Free" profits to be made there without spending extra on gates, as you already rented them.

What always kills me (which no, hasn't happened in this thread) is people think Airbus sells more than Boeing because Airbus always saves a good chunk of their announcements for the Paris Air Show, whilst Boeing just lets the airline of choice announce their own orders. Airbus finally wised up and let AA do the talking here. You notice both manufacturers are giving away these aircraft at VERY decent terms.

Ah hell...I'll join up tomorrow. Y'all need a little Fluff in your life.  ^-^

I'm not sure yet where I'll be going; I don't even know where I've been. As I said in another thread...I'm not even sure of the rules of the game. I'm just thinking of staying with aircraft below 100 passengers. Just for fun. Just to see if I can do it. And if I get reset due to...'real life', then so be it.

15
And the more I think about it...the next world I join I'm going to do regional only. Just a random thought...I'm not sure that'll work too well in Dobbins's world...we'll see.
