The problem with "view map" is that I am not able to see any map in the "Admin section-view route map". Even with a small network of destinations, it just won't download... :'(

Game Strategy / Re: Best aircraft for international flights?
« on: June 19, 2009, 11:13:47 am »
In the 80s. the best to start longhauls is Convair 990 or Vickers VC10-relatively cheap.  DC8-62 works great, though it is more expensive.
In the 90s. my most efficient aircraft is Airbus A310-300HGW.
For 2000s. - B757 and A319LR for thinner routes, and A330-200 or B767-200 for higher capacity.
The problem is that it is difficult to have 100% load factor and high profit on aircraft with seating>260 - you need to wait for 96 days until it is constructed, it is very expensive and has long turnaround time. That is why they earn for you less, then some medium-hauls.

anyway, due to sentimental reasons- I always buy the Lockheed L1011 :roll:

Game Strategy / Re: Best Aircraft For ATR 42-320 replacement
« on: June 18, 2009, 09:47:39 am »
now we are clear.
for sectors long up to 500nm, replace them simply with newer ATRs - no other prop can generate such profits. You may also want toconsider the HS748B, but still the ATR72 is better. For  sectors longer than 500nm, I suggest Fokker F28-3000,as long as it is still available. It is really great. In 1997 the CRJ700 are not available yet and I was disappointed with the CRJ100, so I really suggest Fokkers. For high-demand routes chose F-70.

After the research is done, the code will be modified to show city name and airport name. We have also envisioned an option for the players to choose between both, or either one.

As you have said, this has been discussed, and this answer is final. Typing this post cut into the research time for 3 minutes in real time spents, and another significant amount for a drop in my mood, which is quite unfortunate.

The answer is OK and it is final for me.
Now, the thing that I cannot understand,is the attitude in your post replying to Xenia.
"whining and complaining are counter-productive. Now, if you would stand in our shoes, a little ranting is not a crime that is worth getting executed, is it?" - Obviously - it is not, and obviously yo do not have to reply to any post that cause "a significiant drop in your  mood".
My id is 941 and I have been constantly playing this game from mid 2007. I posted it, as I found this element getting me more and more angry and confusing, and to cause some discussion - this is what this forum is for, right? ??? I decide to post a complain/problem report only when it is affectin my game in a significiant way.
If,as you stated, "This is the fourth topic concerning the same issue this past two weeks.", then it does obviously suggest that this problem is affecting the game.
Let's stop the disicussion here, I wrote it to clear the situation and clarify me reason for posting.

If you have any problems with finding some data on offical websites in the future-let the players know. Post an info, just like you did "donate AM with some photos" and as the players are from all over the world, I'm sure you get help. In "real" I have been an airport employee for six years, so  I can provide you with some official info  I have  access to, whenever it is needed  :)

brgds,
alex.

ATR 42/72, plus Saab 340B for thin routes.
Fokker Jets for medium haul operations: F28-1000/3000/6000, Fokker 70, eventually the Avros/BAE. Aviod McDonnel Douglas shorthauls, I found it very difficult to find proper routes for them.

Game Strategy / Re: The Most Profitable Aircraft in AM
« on: June 17, 2009, 11:14:59 pm »
In the 60-80s. the Caravelle Super 10B and Caravelle 10R are the best and most profitable.  I also liked the BAC 111-200/400 very much. MDs and the B727/737 are sometimes too in reference to passenger demand.  It is my 4th round in the eighties and most of my short and medium haul fleet always consist on the core: Caravelle 10/BAC 111.
For longer and strong demand routes the best is Boeing 757-200 , Airbus A310HGW and DC8-62/63.
Asfar as regionals are concerned, my top is for  the NAMC YS11A-500, followed by Fokker F28Jet.

That depends on the length of the sectors operated by your a/c and passenger demand... You have ATR42-320 which has very lng range - 3109nm , which is very long for a turboprop plane, so I think you operate them on relatively long routes. If the passenger numbers  are ok and you play in the early 90.s, I strongly recommend Fokker F28 Jet srs. 1000 or 3000.  Another as competitive propeller as tthe ATR is the NAMC YS11a-500 -the only one that comes to my mind.
If you are playing in the 2000s. I suggest you switched into Bombardiers CRJs. Fokker 70 is a very well-performing aircraft too.

General Chat / New Airport Names
« on: June 17, 2009, 10:02:21 pm »
Hi everyone,

I know it has already been discussed, but I decided to start a new topic as the situation is gettin problematic and confusing.

Is there any LOGICAL reason for changing the airport name from the name of the city(served)  into an official aerodrome name? I have just logged int a new world and noticed that really numerous airports names have just been changed , i.e.:
Milan Linate --> Linate
Athens --> El Venizelos
Riyadh --> King Khaled International
Jeddah --> king Abdulaziz
Rome Fiumicino --> Leonardo Da Vinci

In my opinion  it is getting:
1. confusing, when searching/creating a route, as lots of airports lack the name of the city it is serving (Rome)
2. unrealistic - does anyone flying in real world the NAP-HER route, says:"I'm flying the Capodichino-N.Kazantzakis sector tomorrow? obviously not
3. difficult to cope and remember -many of these names are completely unknown for foreigners,espacially from antoher continent
4. crazy

I know most of the 3-litter IATA codes, so this is the only way I am dealing with this issue right now. if the game was to get more difficult, why not delete all airports or countries names and leave just the 4-litter ICAO codes??
i just do not see any reason for changing this issue.

please, at least give us a possibility to chose between official aerodromes names and airport names used in OAG or any timetable.

Iam also wondering what are another players' opinons.

brgds,

Alex
