Greetings from Rome and Copenhagen - China Airways' latest long-haul destinations
Beijing, People's Republic of China - 20 May 2002: Today China Airways, the flag carrier of the People's Republic of China, is proud to unveil the latest additions to its European destinations:
Rome and
Copenhagen. Frequented by visitors from all over the world; both Rome, the capital city of Italy, and Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark, plays an integral part in the European travel and tourism eco-system enabling China Airways to enter a virtually untapped market. A world first, the flights from Beijing to Italy and Denmark will truly enable 'East meets West', introducing brand new travel opportunities, cultural experiences and enhance economical relationships between these countries.

History, human genius and the hot midday sun have conspired to make
Rome one of the world’s most seductive and thrilling cities. A trip to Rome is as much about lapping up the lifestyle as it is gorging on art and historic sights and there’s no better way of getting into the local spirit of things than by eating and drinking well. Food and wine are central to Roman social life and the hundreds of pizzerias, trattorias, restaurants and gelaterie that crowd the city centre do as much business catering to locals as to tourists and out-of-towners. But there’s more to Rome than history, fine art and great food. Rome is Italy’s capital and largest city, and while history reverberates all around, modern life is lived to the full - something passengers on China Airways will now be able to experience with the daily flight to Rome from Beijing.

One of the coolest, most cosmopolitan, most exciting and most wonderful cities in Scandinavia,
Copenhagen in Denmark was an easy and natural choice for China Airways. These days the Danish capital is blossoming. There is a spring in its step borne from a mixture of some brave new architecture, continued prosperity and a burgeoning confidence in its own charms. There are more cafés and restaurants than ever and, more importantly, the locals are learning how to use them. Copenhagen hailed as one of the 'most liveable cities in the world', is clean, safe and ridiculously easy to get to know with something new and exhilirating waiting around every corner.
The two new routes are served by "
Empress Wu", a brand new Boeing 777-200ER named after the only female monarch of China who ruled the empire for over half a century. The new aircraft welcomes 440 passengers onboard with the airline's standard long-haul cabin layout of 10 Seats in
Qin Dynasty (First class), 30 Seats in
Tang Dynasty (Business class) and 400 seats in
Ming Dynasty (Economy class). For improved, more efficient in-flight service, "Empress Wu" is equipped with an advanced cabin management system. Linked to a computerised control console, the cabin management system assists the cabin crew with many tasks and allows the airline to provide new services for passengers, including a digital sound system comparable to the most state-of-the-art home stereo or disc players.
China Airways' European division now offers daily flights to
Denmark, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Russia and Switzerland with more coming soon. The airline also recently added additional routes from Hong Kong to various destinations in Thailand and Malaysia as part of its Asian route expansion strategy. Currently China Airways handles 60% of all air traffic at Beijing Capital International Airport, 78% of all air traffic at its second base at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and 80% of all air traffic from it's third base, Hong Kong International Airport. I have decided to not start over from scratch again in that world but instead will now just join another world where hopefully people are treated more fairly. I will be back with more reports, but this time with a new airline in a new world.
