Bugs / No New Gates Left - One Player World
« on: March 23, 2009, 04:12:14 am »
Private world 459 has been chugging along very nicely till tonight. After creating a new hub in SFO, I tried buying a gate in a number of western cities only to be told there were no gates available in any of them. Was it something I did?

North America only is now open for up to 15 players. Game starts post World War II with one DC-3. Hubs and number of players are limited to encourage a broad network of routes. Password to join is "cieslak". Welcome nostalgia seekers!

Game Data / Re: LED still missing?

Thanks! You do have a habit of using the airport name sometimes, rather then the city, which adds to the confusion.

Game Data / LED still missing?

Couldn't help but notice that St. Petersburg, Russia seems to be missing in 350. Has it found it's way into new worlds? The airport has it's own website if you need GPS or runway data.

My marketing class days are too far behind me now to remember clearly, but the pricing model in this system is too generous for the first flight and too stingy for the last. While you could probably come up with a better formula based on population density and competition level, rewarding higher yields to smaller aircraft is also a problem here.

What issues are being seriously looked at now, and what is further down the road? I would like to help in the discussion, but I don't want to waste your forum time on things that can't be worked on.

That's great, just subtract 12 days from the current date. At least this way, only my wife will be upset.  Thanks!

Bugs / [Fixed] Server trouble side effect
« on: March 16, 2009, 10:17:54 pm »
The recent server problem has really caused timing problems for me. Private world 859 was starting a new month at about 10pm local time before the problem, now it hits the new month at about 9am local time. Since I have no competition, I can live with that, but I have a real job that frowns on web activities. Any way to reset the monthly cycle to about 12 hours later?

When the end of month hits each day, relative to local time, is a very big deal to me and I would suggest finding a way to allow players in private worlds to pick it and keep it the same. It may not be possible, but I've plunked down a little cash with you and find this problem very annoying.

Thanks for an interesting sym and all the work you folks have put into it!

Just created this world for those who like the old prop days. The first page for starting up does not list any cities for creation of the first base. What happened???

General Chat / Re: Massive fleet sizes
« on: March 08, 2009, 03:06:55 am »
This system allows you to create massive fleets, without the restrictions of the real world. It does take away from the pleasure of creating something that could be real. Runway lengths and landing rights are not factors in this system, so you can land the biggest plane you can buy anywhere. Even my little Potez's need more runway then some of these airports have, and the jets need at least twice as much. I've got competitors flying Tu-114's and 707's into airports my plane shouldn't be able to land at!

The other issue is landing rights at domestic airports, it just can't happen like it does in the game.

This system seems to be heading in the right direction, and I enjoy it, but it is way too easy.

As I found out the hard way, don't try to fly your one flight a day to cities with high gate fees until you have some real cash flow and a big plane. The Potez does a nice job of serving those smaller cities for you and the lower gate fee lets you keep more $.

Hi, Boston. I'm from Milwaukee, and the basics of this system don't agree with most airline ops. Why you would rent a gate for $200,000 a month, but only fly there once a day from your hub is crazy.

Check out Luzon Air in Manila, that's me. I've just started in this system too, and it does require some getting use to. Good luck and have fun!

Massive fleet size works in this game because your company is not penalized for being too big or having too wierd a fleet. Airport congestion problems should cost you money, labor problems and weather should cause delays, a bad economy should cause low load factors, and having many types of planes should cost additional maintainance costs for EACH type of plane.

This system is fun to be in, but it's way too easy.
