Game Strategy / Re: The Most Profitable Aircraft in AM
« on: August 15, 2009, 07:52:15 am »- Small: with <100 seats for airports with less than 50000 pax
- Mid-Size: with 150-200 seats for airports bigger than 50000 pax
- Large: with 350+ seats for long intercontinental routes
- Supersonics: with 120-160 seats for routes longer than 1000nm and with high competition. This way even if the income per flight is less, the higher speed of the aircraft allows me to fly the same aircraft on 2-3 routes in the same amount of time
Right now, I'm flying a combination of CRJ-100LRs, RomBAC 1-11-495s, A320s, A330s and Tu-144Ds. The CRJs are being gradually replaced by 1-11s.
- Best A320 gives me about 671000/day. Most of them give me between 400000-550000.
- Best A330 give me about 350000/day. I feel this is way too low and am looking for a better alternative.
- Best CRJ gives about 450000/day, average is around 300000
- Best 1-11 gives me around 536000/day, average is 350000-400000
- Best Tu-144D gives me around 540000/day, average is around 500000
My personal strategy is to concentrate on long & thin routes, so I invest in aircraft that are not necessarily the biggest in size, but have long range and lower fuel consumption.
Game Strategy / Re: Going Low-Cost
« on: October 20, 2008, 05:11:25 pm »The biggest problem is that some dimwits will just continue to match or lowball you by €1 when they don't realize they can charge a higher fare and maintain 100% loads.
I don't understand how an airline can charge a higher fare and maintain 100% loads. The only way I see this happening is if the airline switches to a lower capacity aircraft.
Personally, as long as my load factor stays above 85%, I don't bother changing fares. After that I start dropping fares in €10 increments. Also, I prefer to operate aircraft slightly smaller than the competition is flying. It allows me better operating margins, especially on crowded routes.

Bugs / Small error on Research Route Page
« on: August 04, 2008, 07:07:35 pm »The list boxes ask you to choose the departing and arriving continents and airports, but when the result is displayed, the selections are inverted. i.e. The departure airport is listed as the arrival airport and vice-versa.
It doesn't really affect gameplay ... but it does distract the eye, especially when the rest of the game is so well planned and developed.
Kudos on the rest of the stuff though!

« on: August 04, 2008, 03:38:17 pm »On a somewhat related question ... are new worlds generated at midnight Irish Std. Time?
Just curious ... and eager. I joined W9 very late and want to try my hand at a new world now that I've learned a bit more about the game.
Game Strategy / best regional aircraft?
« on: August 04, 2008, 03:09:15 pm »I think its CRJs...
I dun like those underwing-pylons in Airbuses and Boeings......
I think you're referring to actuators which are responsible for pushing the flaps/elevators up & down. I don't like their looks either ... unfortunately, the bigger your aircraft gets, the more force is required to push the bigger flight controls.

General Chat / This is too funny
« on: July 30, 2008, 02:11:56 pm »Ah, there was his problem, if you're gonna go on a "LFC" format, the last thing anyone should be doing is leasing out planes, especially jetliners with that 5% rule out there.
I'm new here. so I'm sorry if this has been asked before....
Just what is the 5% rule?
Game Data / Re: Reference site for airport data
« on: July 29, 2008, 03:03:51 pm »Quote from: "vivtho"I don't know if you are aware of the World Aeronautical Database (http://worldaerodata.com/). It has detailed airport information for virtually every airport.
Just my $0.02
It doesn't contain pax and cargo data, and it doesn't have "virtually every airport". It has 47 chinese airports listed, while there are over 100 airports in China, as reported by CAAC (and this is just for example).
I just happened to come across the site today. I was able to give a result for every airport I could throw at it, including some really small ones in India. Anyway, I'lk keep an eye out for a site with more information.

You might want to try Gimp for Macs (http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/).
It's free and can use all the common image formats.
