General Chat / Yo Man, the world's big enough for both of us....
« on: June 13, 2008, 08:00:19 pm »We had a nice little market there by the bay. Everybody was making money. You, me and sometimes some other guys. But then you decided you wanted it all for yourself. So, you loaded up the routes you competed against me with cheap fares and high frequency. You drew the big guns as you brought out your mighty Caravelle 10Bs with your 4x frequency and cheap fares on our shared routes. All that just to blow out my poor little Embraer's and Fairchilds. What'd I do to you? Why so selfish? Okay, you got me, I dropped my fares and now we're not making that much money. But dude, your plane cost 30 million and mine 3.2 million. Your ROI doesn't make sense. If you had shareholder's they would be voting you out of office or worse, stringing you up by the jewells. Stop the madness! Step away from the abyss as there's enough room for all of us.
Sincerely,
Chuck
General Chat / W3 - How do you make money with A300 on a competetive route?
« on: May 28, 2008, 05:41:12 pm »Put your plane in short hauls. The more short-hauls your plane flies, the more money it will earn.
This also works in other planes.
I took up Fleur-de-Lis on his offer (cheers!) for a short-term lease on one A300. It definitely makes more money on short-haul routes than long haul. But, even with the discounted lease it's difficult to earn a profit when 2 or 3 others jump into the same route.
The turn-around time coupled with the staffing and gate costs make it an expensive proposition in W3 as there are just so many other players out there.

« on: May 27, 2008, 01:11:28 pm »At open market leases at nearly 10 million a month I don't see a wining hand there.
Any enlightenment?
