General Chat / Quick question on laptop
« on: June 02, 2008, 01:16:16 pm »
You've already got one. Your laptop adapter 'adapts' the AC power from the wall into the DC power that your laptop needs to charge it's battery so don't worry. If you really had been whacking in 220V AC for 3 years directly into your machine it wouldn't work by now!

Game Data / A340-300

Yeah they do have a disturbingly long take off roll don't they... but it's a lovely and quiet flight once your up compared to a 777

Flight Simulators & Online Flying / FSX - My computer upgrade.

I have both, X-Plane feels more realistic to me (I've only flown small singles in real life mind). Graphically I think X-Plane 9 looks better than FSX also (FSX feels very cartoony even though it's more advanced). However I rarely play X-Plane as it dosent have any really good heavy metal simulations like FSX. The XPFW 757 looks great but lags behind on systems modeling. Also when you fly on IVAO/VATSIM with X-Plane the other traffic looks awful and floats above the ground/taxis on the grass due to the different airport data used (although X-Planes is generally more accurate, but try convincing the FS hordes of that!)

General Chat / Maintenance Cost
« on: May 27, 2008, 06:00:59 pm »
In a way does this high maintenance cost not help to stop mega airlines getting more and more mega and reward more careful management of a smaller airline?

I think that anything that encourages a little more thought in play rather than just putting a single freq route to every airport you can find is a good thing and helps to balance the game between different styles of play. Maybe maintenance is too boarder term to use but as fleets get super huge in the real world I would wager that costs do also. For example if you have 400 Boeing jets then you have to pay an awful lot of hangerage/overnight gate fee's!

It would be good to see maintenance in some way linked to fleet commonality however as it is in the real world to an extent.

Acceleration isn't really worth it in my opinion. As CHR says you only get a handful of extra planes/missions and none of them are that good unless your really into the red bull air race thing. I'd just get the Deluxe FSX (that gives you alot more than the regular one and is not that much more) and use your acceleration money to get a really good add on like the Level D-767 or Flight 1 Super 80

Make sure you've got a mighty system however as FSX seems to be capable of bringing almost anything to it's knees!

General Chat / Runway length?
« on: May 21, 2008, 09:56:35 pm »
Would it not be possible to at least class aircraft in very board groups. i.e STOL, RJ, Light, Medium, Heavy. It obviously still would not be perfect but it would stop someone landing a Jumbo Jet in Dundee. That said does smaller airports having less available pax kinda make this a silly thing to do anyway? Sorry if I'm butting in where a noob shouldn't by the way.

Hi all, does AM simulate airport runway lengths. i.e. can you not land a 747 at a short field airport?

cheers
