General Chat / What Is A Broker?
« on: March 09, 2008, 01:22:58 am »OK, so what was the point of me doing this if there was no Markup Value?
Thnks for the reply!
Nothing. A beginner's mistake, but that's OK.
The only time I would broker for 0% (or lower) is for a fellow alliance member. I'm not an official broker (there are only 4) so I don't get a discount on any aircraft.

« on: March 08, 2008, 11:17:43 pm »Thanks for the quick reply. So must I order the plane sepereately or do I just do nothing now?
Also how does this increase my profit as I've had to pay £60.000.000?
You do nothing. When the plane is done being built, then the person you brokered for will have 3 months in game to pay you for it (3 days in real life).
The profit increase is only if there was a markup percentage. I've brokered some planes at 2% & 3%, so that means the profit I make is 2% or 3% of the cost of the plane.

« on: March 06, 2008, 09:40:47 pm »Simply put, to maximize revenue, only lease planes at the beginning of the month.
I'd be lying if I said I haven't taken advantage of people who didn't realize that leasing a plane on the 21st or 24th means you'll still get charged on the 1st
Basically a 1 month lease at twice the rate!

There will be no shunning, specifically because of what I've bolded.

« on: March 05, 2008, 07:34:12 am »I forgot to add without gate rental fees
Ahh, but what if you're flying to that airport from another hub and deduct the full gate rental from the profit of that airport? Purely hypothetical, but even then, you could possibly make a profit on 1 E routes (though it's harder than making a profit on 25 & 50 E routes haha).
General Chat / LEASING - can`t understand
« on: March 05, 2008, 07:32:23 am »Quote from: "MusicAIR"Actually, not quite.
Rent is what you *pay* - the lease is the type of arrangement you have.
When you "rent" an apartment, you usually have some form of "lease" with the landlord - whether it is month-to-month, 12 months, or a set term (10+ years, etc). Again, the rent is what you pay (the "consideration"), the lease is the contract that's formed.
Yes... in terms of real estate, that is true...
but do we really say "pay rent on planes"? :?
Sure...if you wanted, it would be perfectly appropriate to say you "pay rent" on the planes you lease. In the corporate world, it just sounds better to say you "lease" the office, the car, the plane, whatever...rather than "pay rent".
Well generally, wouldn't something 'rented' be for a shorter time then leasing? Eg a rental car is for a few days/weeks , whereas my dad leased a car, and that was for 3 years. Renting is pretty much short-term lease in this context.
Only in the sense of common usage of the word, not the actual meaning. A rental car is actually "leased" on a day-to-day term (or can be "leased" on an hourly term).
If you haven't already, read up on beginner contract law, and you'll see it's all covered.

While you might understand how to play Blackjack, have you ever played in a casino?
I've seen some players in Atlantic City & Vegas get downright brutal and rude against other players because they didn't like how they were playing. While you're "playing" against the dealer, you're "competing" with other players for the cards.
General Chat / LEASING - can`t understand
« on: March 05, 2008, 04:37:09 am »Quote from: "matros"Quote from: "dktc"In AM, you pay for the lease. As long as you pay the lease you use the plane. You don't get to own it.
Then what`s the difference between leasing and rent?
Rent is for gate. Lease is for plane.
Technically, they are the same.
Actually, not quite.
To matros - leasing is only helpful if you understand advanced finances. You might consider only buying planes, not leasing them, if you don't understand the leasing market.

Seriously, could you stop bothering with posting your stats? Ever heard the phrase 'comparing apples with oranges'? You're beta testing the multiworlds game, NOT the one everyone else is playing. If you really insist on posting your stats for multiworlds, then at least mention that in the post.

u mad?
This is a video game?
Dang. All I have are still pictures. I guess I need to return it to the store.
No kidding.
This is a game, but this is a multiplayer game where the actions of others affect you. If there is a player who doesn't educate themselves on proper yield management, then the work another player puts in to research & plan their routes is affected negatively.
The point of these posts is to give those kids some learnin' (as in, educate them on how to SUCCEED in the game, not do poorly and bring everyone else down with them).
Bugs / Routes losing demand over time?
« on: March 03, 2008, 10:54:23 pm »But it seems to be a more widespread explanation than that explanation would well explain. For example, I closed out one plane... and then decided not to upgrade it after all. Every single route that plane served (ex-LHR) lost between 2-5k DOP. Now, we know that swapping out planes, you rarely get the same money back in for the same fare, but for all of those routes, I had to drop the fare by up to 50€ to get 100% load factor.
If I'm the only one noticing then maybe it is as you say, and maybe it's a factor of fewer people playing this round and just not the increasing demand which we are used to. But that doesn't mean demand should be dropping across the board? At the start of the game, I could still increase routes with no competition by up to 50€ per day... now I daren't touch them since I know to maintain LF, I'll have to drop my prices.
All very odd!
I've now noticed this too...I took delivery of some new planes and was upgrading the A/C on some routes - yet if I decided not to do so, and tried to recreate the route as originally set, I'd get less than 100% LF. Not cool!
