YEA!!! there is light at the end of the tunnel.....I cant wait!

are you saying that it will be coming soon?

Im not saying anything of the sort, but if you read the whole thread the writing is on the wall....i cant wait, im excited and give the developers a ton of credit, because i know this one wasnt as easy as adding a button and the sort, theres alot of calculations to figure out for something that we all think is pretty simple.  So in short, the very fact that its being worked on and updated here is a major undertaking.

Just to give a little insight on airline finances, you may remember a Dateline NBC spot a few years back.....American Airlines 767 from JFK to LAX actually was lucky to break even on a daily basis and the plane was full.  Airlines make money where they can, some from long haul, some from shorthaul.  Successful airlines are those with the right schedule, the right connections, the right person watching the purse strings and most important, the right reputation.

Last round is same as this one in regards to value, no known changes.  Your value wont change until end of month if i recall.  You spent money so your value went down.

decides to go out and run a Super Connie at maximum frequency at $1 for every flight.

55 out of 475 routes (quick count of anything above 4 frequencies) does not come close to "every flight".

I should have researched before i commented.  In that case, I apologize;  the spirit of the game was not violated.

I find it ridiculous that some of the huge top ten airlines monolopize the game to no extent. There is one particular airline that, because he had enough money, decides to go out and run a Super Connie at maximum frequency at $1 for every flight. Meaning he has 1 Super Connie er flight at $1. He loses money sure, but he has enough to afford it. He is screwing around with everybody because he has all this money, something has to be done ASAP. We need tougher restrictions on how cheap we can go.

While I agree something needs done, restrictions on how cheap we can go isnt the answer.  Now the fact that a top ten airline did what you described is a bit extreme and probably needs looked at.  Its not a violation of the rules, but it does violate the spirit of the game.

Now maybe its just me, but ive found on 3 occasions now, that once a route drops to 1€ and stays there for a bit, some airlines start to fall off.  Then I start arbitrarily raising the price up to 10 or 20€ and usually the other airlines follow.  Im going to keep doing this and see if we can get the prices on those routes back up to where we can all make some cash.  Just a matter of everybody working at it together, so far it seems to be working.

General Chat / Gates leasing

I like the idea of airlines leasing out gates, but it must be gates they own, not the ones they rent, so they have to build their own terminal if they would wish to do that. But I don't like hte idea of people hogging gates so they can sell them at higher values.

In theory this sounds ok, but then someone will build 500 gates at CDG or LHR and have 3 flights and try to rent the rest out.  He will in effect become a gate Czar.  Not so good.

General Chat / Some Players are killing the game

As far as the log book or order book, my only problem with that is that is what the "blue game" has, and it can be a problem.  If very successful airline X orders 500 aircraft and the manufacturer can only deliver 10 a day you have to wait until his order is done before you can receive aircraft.

Though this isn't a true simulation, we might want to look at what really happens when an airline forms in order to solve our problems.

They don't just start out with a dc3 and 5mill in the bank.  They start out with a huge debt and financial backers.  Perhaps we should start out with a loan that needs repaid.  Also I don't know of any airline that shows up at Boeing with a suitcase full of money and just starts buying planes.  They have to be financed, they cost alot of money and frequently have to be leased.  Also the aircraft companies only have X amount of production available.  The idea that an airline can order 1000 DC6's and have them delivered 24 days later is outrageous.  How long did it take to make a dc6?  How many could Douglas produce in a month?  All of these factors should figure in and give the answer to how long it takes to get a plane.  It would cause the used market to be more than just a dumping ground for planes that cant get sold.  Also, sometimes scrapping a plane is worth more than the plane itsself, perhaps that needs looked at as well.

The loan at the start would cause those airlines that make poor business decisions to go under quickly.

Food for thought.

General Chat / Montana? Wyoming? Idaho? Utah? N-S Dakota?
« on: October 24, 2007, 11:51:26 pm »
Northwest makes 4 flights daily into minot north dakota with (what else) a DC9.  Having flown that flight (so yes I fly there) I can tell you its always full, there are frequent standbys and from what a friend of mine who works for NW  tells me (and she works in route planning so she'd know) they make a small fortune off that route.

General Chat / Stop the Undercutters, start the CAB!

Hmmm Well if we do this CAB thing, since we are Pan American World Airways, we'd like all you people with the exception of TWA to cease any international routes out of the US.  Now I'd also like my subsidies for flights to japan, my military contracts to Europe and my subsidies for Boeing aircraft.  I'll wait patiently now, but I wont hold my breath.

I totally agree with LOT on this, there are airlines out there that run 95% .05 routes and end up in the top 10.  I know its a game and its not illegal but come on.  I view the .05's like card counting in a casino, its not illegal, but the boys in the dark suits really dont appreciate it.
