General Chat / Yay! A new world has been created!!!
« on: July 30, 2008, 10:38:17 pm »Game Updates / Another new Addition - Aircraft Registrations
« on: July 26, 2008, 05:29:41 am »Of course the ID is important internally - but to a player, the ID has no useful relationship to anything meaningful. It's an automatically assigned sequential series of numbers.
Reg numbers would be useful if a player was allowed to select their own - enabling them to keep track of their fleet by assigning different types of aircraft to different logical reg number groupings, as the real airlines do.
As it stands, the reg number system is just another automatically assigned sequential series of numbers and letters, with no more usefulness to the player than the ID number.
Game Updates / Another new Addition - Aircraft Registrations
« on: July 25, 2008, 09:33:12 am »The point of a reg number system should be to organize (and semi-realistically) define an airline's fleet, in the case of US airlines, using the airline's preferred suffixes (AA, AN, US, UW, PS, UA, etc.) If it's just a sequentially-assigned letter-number group, it's meaningless to the aircraft owner, and will result in the person having a fleet full of randomly-registered aircraft whose reg numbers bear no relationship whatsoever to any logical rhyme or reason.
As it is, I'll simply ignore the AM-assigned registration number and continue to create my own, using the aircraft name tool.
General Chat / Concerning €1 Routes
« on: April 15, 2008, 06:31:43 pm »I mean, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky would be a semi-major airport, but it would not be the gigantic traffic-magnet it is if it wasn't for the fact that Delta has a giant hub there. The hub built the airport traffic, not the other way around.
One should be able to start in a city like Fresno or Boise, build a hub and attract traffic. Of course, the algorithm should be designed so you can't turn San Luis Obispo Regional Airport into the next Chicago-O'Hare - you can build a hub up from scratch, but it'll never be a giant world-dominating hub (have a curve that allows it to grow in a certain way, based on its original size, the number of routes added, with a certain random factor built in) but this would greatly improve and spread out gameplay. Otherwise, everyone's going for the same airports every round, every time.
General Chat / Independence Air Aircraft naming contest
« on: April 13, 2008, 07:32:53 pm »I mean it takes too long to name all your planes. I have other things to worry about
I see it as part of the fun of the game. It's a hell of a lot more fun to research/develop realistic naming/numbering schemes than it is to get into some stupid click-fest fare war.
Bugs / Airline Value decreasing
« on: April 11, 2008, 06:21:58 am »So if your aircraft depreciated more than your cash balance increased, your airline would overall lose value.

« on: April 11, 2008, 01:52:45 am »For example, I'm naming my HS-748s after American rivers. I could have 1,000 HS-748s and still not run out of names.
Fokker Fellowships are Revolutionary War battles. Again, there's plenty of those (even if I have to start getting down to the skirmish level.)
DC-9/B732Advs might be American mountains. MD-80s, American mountain ranges. B722Advs, American lakes/bodies of water. B752s (once we get there), American heroes (Martin Luther King, Jr., Edward Abbey, etc.) B763s, American presidents, perhaps. There's no shortage of naming systems - you just have to get creative.
General Chat / What's your new DOP in AM??

« on: April 05, 2008, 10:38:22 am »General Chat / A Deep Philosophical Inquiry Into The Very Soul of AM
« on: April 04, 2008, 08:09:42 am »Having to set two or three fares per route isn't any harder and doesn't require any more thinking than setting one fare - it just means you have to click around to find the right fare three or four times as much as you used to.
That's not any more "fun" or "challenging" than it is now. It's just more mindless make-work clicking, and drives the game further in the direction of "who has the most time to spend clicking buttons" rather than "who can put together the right strategy?"
What *would be* more challenging about multi-class seating is developing the right fleet mix with the right balance of premium cabin seating - you might run an 8F/112Y bird from LAX to LAS and a 16F/80Y bird from LAX to SFO.
There needs to be a bigger penalty in AM for wrong-sizing aircraft. Putting a 737-sized aircraft on a route like ATL-MCN should be met with instant massive epic fail from a profitability standpoint, instead of the mere "diminishing returns" you get now.
