General Chat / *What* do you Name Your Planes?
« on: February 28, 2008, 11:59:51 am »
Since my airline is based in Vancouver, I've been naming them after Canadian politicians...

General Chat / Your goal for this round
« on: February 11, 2008, 11:36:11 pm »
My goal is to built a unique, neat airline in Africa. Last round I tried to be the best in Japan, but I began to lose interest when I had hundreds of planes doing nothing. This time, I just wanted to have a small airline that I could run in a 3rd world country. No dreams of flying with the supermajors, just a little airline with a big heart. But next time, look out Rust Belt, USA!

General Chat / I think AM is already oversatured.

Oversaturation? I haven't noticed - then again, I'm flying a fleet of FH-227's and B737's out of Lagos, Nigeria...

General Chat / Cybernations (Off Topic)
« on: December 21, 2007, 11:02:54 pm »
For a few months now I've been playing one of the best online games I've seen. It's called Cybernations, and you create a nation anywhere in the world and decide how you will rule your people by choosing a government type, a national religion, ethnicity, tax rate, currency type, and more in this geo-political, nation, and government simulator. You can build your empire by purchasing infrastructure to support your citizens, land to expand your borders, technology to increase your nation's effectiveness, military to defend your interests, and develop national improvements and wonders to build your nation according to your choosing.

It's a very good game, and if any of you are interested in the game, it's available free at:
http://www.cybernations.net/

Since it's a very competitive game, it is recommended that you join an alliance. A good alliance is the GGA, located here:

Juan Trippe is back! Get me my Steyr SPP and my "I'm an Acker Backer" pin!

Seriously, it's probably a small programming bug, and not the start of hacking.

General Chat / Why did you guy want to start in the 1950s?
« on: November 14, 2007, 11:02:47 pm »
This is a great decade for aviation! Small, elegant props flying across the world taking days to link Tokyo and Seattle! Unless you count the 200+ PAX flying bananas (Which I like):

General Chat / So what happens in 1960?
« on: November 14, 2007, 10:54:08 pm »
Can we please have the Lockheed Electra as our starting aircraft? It has a good load, and it crashes a lot!

You mean like HND-KIX has died? I feel your pain. I can let 16k evaporate from my bank account every hour!  :lol:

General Chat / Half-flights quantity
« on: November 03, 2007, 06:02:28 pm »
So we can have more than one 0.5 frequency per plane as long as each 0.5 route goes to another city? For example, one route would be Osaka-Moscow, the other Osaka-Hong Kong. The route would go SVO-KIX in the morning, KIX-HKG in the evening, HKG-KIX the next morning, and KIX-SVO the next evening, right?

Game News / Zero Tolerance

As I said, I thought some more experienced people would disagree  :lol:

I also said it wasn't perfect and wasn't the final solution. And, part of my thoughts are to slow down expansion - going from 500k euros or whatever we started with to 1000,000,000 in just a few game months is too quick in my opinion. So I think slower progress would be a good thing, with the efficiency of your planes (ie the extra hour or two they have left over if you cant fit them into round trip routes) improving over time.

I myself have got my DOP up to two million in 6 months - I dont know how this rates to others but I think that is too much too quick, so I would be all for measures that limited routes and things early in the game.

It is true that you can get rich quick, but the challenge is maintaining that wealth. Pan American became the biggest airline in the world rather quickly, but the airline fell into disarray and lost control of that title very quickly, eventually declaring bankruptcy. The only difference between this game is there is no route regulation or price regulation. You can go from Tokyo-Osaka ten times a day and charge 10 euros if you want, but to become successful, you have to keep changing to respond to the market.

General Chat / Scrapping Planes
« on: October 19, 2007, 01:49:25 pm »
For example, you can scrap DC-3's in the 1960's to replace them with CV-540's. No one will want a DC-3 by the 1960's, so it is better to scrap later on. But if you want to get rid of an aircraft at a time in which it might sell, it is always better to sell it.

General Chat / days months years
« on: October 19, 2007, 01:46:19 pm »
Quote from: "Air Elbonia"
1 game day = 1 real hour;
1 game month = 24 real hours;
1 game year = 12 real days;
1 game 'age' = 120 real days. (as one game age typically consists of 10 game years).  In this case, we're going Jan 1 1950 to Dec 24 1959.

I thought that we were going to Dec 24 2009 before the next reset?

General Chat / Bellanca Aircruiser
« on: October 17, 2007, 07:05:46 pm »
It all really depends on the route. If you fly, say, Vancouver to Portland, the Aircruiser is a useful aircraft. However, if you fly Pittsburgh to New York, it's better to get a DC-3 or larger.

General Chat / Cheating from the get go.

I just got here, and there is not nearly as much cheating and bugs as there is on Airline Empires. Count your blessings that the admins here are working hard to keep peace and order.
