Title: Flight in Tahiti - Screenshots
Post by: CHR on February 21, 2009, 01:20:40 pm
On a complete whim, I decided to do a short flight in Tahiti. After finding an aircraft, an Air Tahiti Nui default A321 repaint (even through Air Tahiti Nui don't fly them), I chose two airports at opposite ends of a picturesque island chain: Bora Bora and Tahiti itself (NTTB > NTAA). Fully loaded with passengers, everything seemed perfect for a beautiful day in the tropics, until I discovered the current weather in Tahiti was thunderstorms.

Upon loading, I found myself in a jungle.

Leaving Bora Bora, the clouds don't look too good!

At first I managed to think Bora Bora was actually Tora Bora and I was actually puzzled as to why people would even consider to build a hideout on that island.

Apart from that, I second Seattle's post.

I don't know how this airline makes profit. From an airport with just over 1 million passengers to one with quarter of that, in a A321? I'd do that in a ATR-72 at best, no larger aircraft.

Good flying there. Climbing out of ""Bora Bora"" airport is tough enough in a A321, looking at the runway length.

I 3rd Seattle's post. Faaa. Why 3 a's, or is it in their language? Other than that I understand.

The people probably came by boat from other islands to this airport, I would consider them living in the jungle, because I don't see any houses around! :P

I don't know how this airline makes profit.

Do you mean Air Tahiti Nui? They are subsidised by the French government.

Plus Air Tahiti Nui doesn't fly inter-island Air Tahiti does. And Air Tahiti operates ATR 42's and 72's. Air Tahiti Nui operates 5 A343's a few large destinations. Their main flights is from Tahiti to Los Angeles then to paris.

I'm pretty sure the livery on the plane was just a "what if" livery for an A321 - I just wanted to fly something which vaguely looked like it came from the area.
You can't see it here, but Bora Bora is actually an big island surrounded by a bunch of smaller ones (which you can see in the pictures) - the island the airport is on actually takes up most of it.
