Title: The 2000 Pledge
Post by: Air Elbonia on June 11, 2007, 12:58:19 am
Here's my projects, and their goal releases. We're talking big projects and not the smaller ones. The farther down the list, the less likely it'll be here by game-year 2000. I pledge to have 1 completed by 2000. hopefully i pledge to have through 6 done by the end of the 2000 age.
1. New create/edit/close route pages with new formulas and one-way flights. *Completed*
2. Redesign the backend of the leases, so we can get durations actually working properly, and fees for early cancellations. *backend done, the rest for next age*
3. A small revamp of, and full integration of, the brokerage system, in game. All players will be able to participate without looking at the forums, and there will be great potential for an improvement in speed/responsiveness of brokers. *Half done.*. Sale of planes only for now.
4. Site redesign assistance. *Relatively done.*
5. Addition of for lease stuff to new broker system for game-brokers. *needs to be done*
6. Correction of present handling of inactive and deleted airlines, some backend issues. *needs to be done*
7. Fix alliance system in full. *in process*
8. Extend and fill out the various modifications to demand/sources of revenue on a flight. Hubs, Bases, and focus cities. *after PFL*
9. Improved, integrated new airport suggestions page. (Where you can add airports to the game, but they will still need final approval by admins). *done*
10. Hella more stuff, loans/stocks/etc. We'll see what happens. This is far far off.

Sounds good. Does this mean that we'll have a re-set in 2000?

Yes, every 10 years there is a planned reset.

so when there is a reset, all planes and gates and everything are gone and we start from scratch?

Seen as we're only in 2007 now, I take it the reset after 2000 will be after 7 years? Will the game then be reset back to 1960 or somethin?

How about 1900 and you all start off with a Wright Flyer. :)

LOL! What will the start plane be in 2000? An ATR42 or something, or annother DHC-8-300?

Post by: d1-3508 on June 13, 2007, 08:00:27 am
Dash-8-300 most likely.

747? Please? :)
But a Wright Flyer would be cool. I can already envision it.
Wright Flyer. Speed: 30mph. Max range: 800ft. Seats: 1.
It'd be great! For like, Kittyhawk Town Centre to Kittyhawk Beach routes.

That is too generous. Dash 8-200 should do it ;-)

All airlines would be bankrupt pretty quickly. :P

Would a new routemap also be considered and for there to be different regions below the map that you could click on as opposed to viewing a cluttered world map, i.e. Europe, North America, Central & South America, Middle East, etc. I think this would be a good improvement for the View Information section of each airline.

Dash-8-300 most likely.
As it would be starting in 2000 as opposed to 1989, would it not make sense to provide a more modern default aircraft such as the ATR 42-500?

Three possible options: ATR-42-500 (1995) Saab 2000 (1995) Antonov An-140 (1999) - Most likely given the release date.
What I could do is the same setup to AE where you select your aircraft from a limited number of options, such as the 3 above, and may be the ATR72 but you get reduced cash with the latter.

Yeah I think that would be good as I'd rather the ATR 42-500 over the An-140, but obviously some may prefer the An-140 over the ATR 42-500.

Or maybe what you could do is to provide a higher starting cash and let the players buy their plane(s) on their own.
Title: The 2000 Pledge
Post by: Air Elbonia on June 14, 2007, 02:00:24 am
dktc, a limited selection would be good, a pure cash start wouldn't do too great because it'd slow the game down a little too much for those "perusing", you would likely not be able to do much if anything at all within the first 24 hours of an age.
stephen, sticking with a turboprop as the basis? no crj's? :P

Post by: dktc on June 14, 2007, 02:08:25 am
Well... true, we need to wait for the planes :?
But say we are given a budget and get to choose from all the planes we could afford, then deduct the plane cost from that budget, resulting in the starting cash we have. That would give us more choices, wouldn't it?

well, can we have on age of 20 years (game time) without a reset in the future?
Title: The 2000 Pledge
Post by: Air Elbonia on June 14, 2007, 02:17:59 am
much more viable, yes dktc. if you don't see it in 2000, it may appear in 1970. it has good potential, i kind of like it. under X dollars and add in a 24 hour delivery time (max)....
good potential.

Looking at the data in the database its nearly viable from now to proceed with a start in 1960, just need data from 1940+ added. Also we can pull it back to 1950 but data from 1930-1950 would need to be added, a bit more work there. At that stage it might be worthwhile to have a 20 year round/age,

What about possibly starting with a CRJ-200?
Title: The 2000 Pledge

Heh... Nup. €6,358,486 a pop, considering last round's a/c purchase price was €2,849,120.
We're looking around the €3,000,000 total mark this time, plus €5,000,000 in cash.

I would love to see everyone start off with the Saab 2000

Just noticed one thing thats not on the list that I thought really should be on the list and that is the ability to edit a route, its very annoying to have to close and restart a route just to make it profitable again when another carrier also starts that route.

Edit route is planned to be added, while a change aircraft function will also be considered.

-Have daily registration openings, depending on max users levels
-Automated notifications of registration opening and smart operation, in co-operation with the registration mails. (No need to bore you with the details)
View Route
-Include a list of competitors
-Map of the route
-Market share on route etc
Pretty short list for the moment, but I should get it done. :) I'll expand it if I can get more before 2000.

stephen, don't turn on auto-delete until i've had a good chance to rework some if not all of the delete page.
anyways. UPDATE NEWSFLASH.
new create_route and edit_route pages are fresh and ready for full testing/use the second 2000 hits. Thanks again to all who have helped alpha test the new create route page. A lot of stupid bugs have been eliminated BEFORE it gets to the masses. be pleased masses! Also, I believe i can get the last requisite, a close_route page ready within 48 hours.
also. new, more accurate depreciation logic (which i left off my list of the original 2000 pledge) has been ready to roll out for a few weeks. it will also be put in place at 2000.

New create/edit/close route pages are completed. all appear initially to be working properly through alpha testing.
EDIT: backend of leases updated. mmm... i made my definite deadlines. I have some major backend stuff to try to do but I will use a reasonable bit of my free time and attentions on the remainder of my pledge (primarily on the broker-tendering system).

how about old CRJs? Ones that are old enough to be worth less than a new DCH-8-300?

Update: I've officially completely revamped just about every major page in the game since I started "working" here. Recently i finished a new, improved hourly script which should do some nice things for the back-end, and does more stuff which sooner or later will appear on the front-end to you, the players.
Thanks to everyone for their patience with this transition period, July 1st i guarantee the site will be ready to open anew for a fresh, new, year 2000 age. I know a lot of what i've been working on of late has been unapparent to all but a very few of you, but I have a strong feeling you'll like the new create/edit/close routes. Also, the streamlining of the site as a whole should hopefully improve the playability throughout.
Throughout the 2000s i hope to finish up the majority of this list, though i cannot guarantee i won't get sidetracked by new unforeseen bugs (so far the worst i think have been tested out) or some new features big or small along the way. So when the game next resets (heh. foresight is fun!) hopefully this list will be completed.
