CHR Airlines, initially established over -50 years ago, opened for business last year. We provide the finest service and best prices in European aviation. Our fleet consists of 30 AW-27 Ensigns, 80 Douglas DC-3s and 10 Focke-Wulf Fw.200 Condors. CHR Airlines will continue to provide the customers it will serve in the future the same reliability, quality and prices they already will enjoy.

Here are some pictures of some of our DC-3 aircraft, the largest aircraft type in the CHR fleet.

The all economy version can seat 45 people in comfort. Due to advanced seat design, such as new padding to allow thinner backs, these seats are just as comfortable as conventional seats. Remember, more seats means lower fares for the passenger.

Here is our 28 seat version. Although 28 seats is the industry standard number, we have reconfigured ours to provide extra comfort for our passengers. This layout features a 15 seat economy section up the back, the same seats as on the above full economy aircraft. Then there are 5 premium economy seats. These are located in the front row of the economy section. They are the same sized seat, but have considerably increased leg room and recline further. Up the front of the aircraft is the exclusive first class area. These seats are considerably larger, have greater legroom and recline and are more comfortable than the economy seats. The first class section also has a much larger aisle for ease of access and for first class passengers to walk around in. The back four first class seats are in rows, next to each other for passenger convenience, allowing passengers to interact easier. The front four first class seats share a table. This makes it ideal for meetings or for enjoying the fine dining on offer.

October 23, 1944
CHR Airlines has commenced fleet modernising. Over the past few years, 90 extra AW-27 Ensigns and 40 Curtis CW-40s have been purchased. Recently, CHR has received 20 Douglas DC-4-1009s, with 50 soon to be delivered and more to be bought in the future. There has also been retirement of 5 Focke-Wulf Fw.200 Condors and 18 Douglas DC-3 aircraft. 1 DC-3 and 2 Avro 561 Andovors have been kept in storage for future use.

With the purchase of the DC-4 aircraft, CHR Airlines has commenced services to a number of North American cities, including: Toronto, Atlanta, Charlotte, Detroit, New York (JFK and Newark), Minneapolis-St Paul and Chicago.

September 21, 1948
CHR Airlines continues to lead the aviation world with the introduction of the world's first commercial jet aircraft. This exciting new technology offers unrivaled speed and comfort for CHR's passengers. CHR has ordered 10 Vickers-Armstrongs Nene-Vikings for high-speed short haul routes. At 407 kts, this is the fastest commercial aircraft in the world. CHR Airlines also plans to buy the Avro Canada C102 Jetline, due to be released next year. This will provide higher speed services (500 kts) and will be able to fly medium haul routes.

As part of fleet modernising, CHR has replaced a number of its old aircraft. Currently all our DC-3s and Focke-Wulf Fw.200 Condors are gone. We have also reduced the number of AW-27 Ensigns to 102 and Curtis CW-20s to 30. To replace these planes, we now have 85 Douglas DC-4-1009 aircraft and 35 NC.211 Cormoran aircraft. The latter offers new levels of speed and a larger cabin than ever before. This means lower fares and a better experience for customers.

CHR Airlines has ushered in the new year with the ordering of 5 of the much anticipated new Avro Canada C102 Jetliners. These are, to date, the fastest aircraft in the world, taking 36 passengers at speeds of 500 kts. These aircraft are capable of medium haul flights and will be used for services across Europe when they are delivered in 2 months time. CHR again shows its commitment to providing the latest technology for its customers with this purchase. Below are some more pictures of our aircraft.

A new decade has come and CHR Airlines continues to lead the aviation world in technological advances. We realise that the does not lie with jet aircraft alone, and so CHR has recently purchased some of the biggest and most advanced airliners ever built.

Last year our customers were able to try the first next-generation airliner, the Boeing 377 Stratocruiser, one of the most luxurious planes to date, showing our commitment to our customers. Some of the features include: A cruise altitude of 25,000 ft, allowing you to ride over the bad weather other airlines fly straight through. A pressurised cabin altitude of only 5,500 ft, providing a comfortable environment while inside. A lower level lounge, for our premium passengers to enjoy, with drinks served throughout the flight. Dressing rooms, so that you can arrive refreshed and in style. State-of-the-art galleys, allowing us to serve beautiful hot meals to all 100 passengers, better than most land based restaurants.

This year, CHR Airlines will introduces even more advanced aircraft: the Lockheed Super Constellation L-1049 and Lockheed R6V Constitution. The Lockheed Super Constellation can carry slightly more passengers but at greater speeds than the Boeing 377. The Constitution, the biggest airliner ever produced, can carry a huge 168 passengers up to 5386 nm. The first Super Constellations will arrive in one month and the Constitutions in one and a half months.

How to get there
CHR Airlines has daily flights from Paris (Charles De Gaulle), London (Heathrow), Amsterdam and Frankfurt airports to Montpellier-Méditerranée airport. With the most affordable fares and the highest service, flying is the way to go.

Bus and train services are also available to Montpellier, however, be aware that the French road and rail services are highly unreliable and far slower than flying.

December 13, 1954
It is with much sadness that CHR Airlines farewells one of its greatest airplanes, the AW-27 Ensign. The aircraft type has been in service with CHR for over 16.5 years, with the final aircraft (at 13.9 years old) finally being retired from service today. The AW-27 Ensign, when it was introduced in 1938 was a triumph of engineering, taking more people at greater speeds than ever before. Since then, aviation technology has improved, with the Il-18 replacing many of our AW-27 Ensign routes. CHR Airlines also anticipates the withdrawal of the Curtis CW-20 in the near future. CHR Airlines recognises the contribution of the fine aircraft to our services, being the workhorse of our fleet for many years, but also realises the need to provide faster, cheaper and more comfortable services to our customers. Two AW-27 Ensigns, our first and last operating ones, have been stored in the CHR Airlines Mueseum for future generations to admire.

CHR News Update
May 6, 1973
CHR Airlines is proud to announce their fleet changes to date. CHR is operating a fleet comprised mainly of jet liner aircraft. A small number of older Ilyuskin Il-18 aircraft, with performance nearly on-par with the most modern jet aircraft, are already partially phased out. With the retirement of these aircraft, CHR will operate a jet only fleet.

The main body of the CHR fleet has become the SE 210 Caravelle Super 10B (90 aircraft), however the Dassault Mercure (10 aircraft to date) has been selected as the replacement for the main fleet aircraft. The HS121 Trident (2E and 3B models, 16 aircraft) are being used on routes to moderately large cities. CHR Airlines has also ordered the Airbus A300 (10 aircraft to date) to service high capacity short and medium haul routes. These French and British aircraft reflect CHR's desire to support local European industry, part of being a responsible corporate citizen.

The Boeing company has been selected to provide the majority of the large aircraft for the CHR fleet. The Boeing 707 represented CHR's first major leap into the jet era, opening new destinations to the travelling public. These revolutionary aircraft continue to be purchased with the latest avionics to make up the majority of CHR's long haul fleet (with 43 707s of various types). The Boeing 747 has recently been ordered (7 aircraft to date), with first deliveries in approximately 3 months. These aircraft will be put on the highest capacity routes to major destinations. The Boeing 727 is used on high capacity short and medium haul routes. This aircraft brings a greater number of passengers at higher speeds to their destinations across Europe. CHR also operates the Douglas DC-8-60 on high capacity routes (11 aircraft).

CHR Airlines again shows its commitment to utilising the latest technology to bring a better service to customers. The 747 will be the largest commercial airliner in the world when the first aircraft are completed, over two and a half times larger than the 707. This means lower fares and more space, including the luxurious upper deck CHR Lounge for our passengers. The 747, despite its size, is nevertheless one of the fastest aircraft available, and will get passengers to their destinations in record times.
The Airbus A300 also brings advanced technologies when it arrives. It is the first wide bodied aircraft to have only two engines, decreasing costs, and so bringing down fares for customers. It also has advanced electronics and systems, ensuring safer flights.
