Does it help push one closer to the top in the rankings to have terminals vs. just gates?

Yes, as in the long run you save a lot of money.

I believe when you make the terminal, you actually lose value, cause you're spending money.
It doesn't directly give you higher value, but it does in saved rental costs.

Only in the short run, you'll make up the value you lost overnight if utilize your terminal's capacity right when you build it.
