Title: How age you consider that is necesary for sell or scrap an a/c?
Post by: shaq on August 31, 2008, 02:07:43 am: Hi I have a Embraer that is 2 years old , 2,835 cycles , and 5,378 airframe hour.
What age you consider that is better selling the aircraft because , more old aircraft=more maintainment cost.
I am not sure if replace it or wait until the a/c have 3 years old.

If you have a whole fleet that's 2-3 years old, then you'll want to start replacing it.

Say I have a 4 year old plane with say 80 seats newbs that dont have anyclue what they are doing will still pay good money when they see the same plane at 6 times the price. I know when i started I didn't think about maintanence costs. :D

What if it's something like a J61? There are hundreds on the open market, lots of which are at minimum price. I just scrapped 10 J61s as I couldn't sell them.

when a plane is old ? is there any possibility of mechanical failure and plane grounded?

There are no random events like mechanical failures or groundings.

I'm not sure how high their MX costs are, but they would be pretty big!
