Title: Route Potential
Post by: expressair on July 16, 2008, 11:48:17 am
The estimated route potential values..... are they an daily / monthly / annual figures???? And what are the chances of the pax values increasing once you start the flights????
Thx

Another thing i noticed.
When you are the only airline flying that route, it shows potential as average
But when there are others around, it always shows as Good. Even if the pax numbers are significantly less
Is this the way the game is coded?????? :?:

You have competition on those routes as they have moe demand. Average/good/poor is nothing to do with the amount of competition, but the demand at each airport.
:D

The higher PAX an airport has the more likely to get Very Good and Excellent potentials.

That is the thing.
When i try and create a route from BOM (17,789,193 pax) to AGX (9486 pax), it shows route potential as good. This despite the fact that there are 2 other airlines on the same route and we offer a combined 200+ seats daily.
At the same time when i try create HYD (3,995,103 pax) to BPL (147,415 pax) it shows as average despite having no competition.
in the first case only one airport has large number of pax. in the second case both have decent pax, so why this disparity?????
Or am i missing something here????

I'm fairly sure the route potential indicator is calculated using only the passenger data for each airport, which is fixed, not dynamic. The competition is caused by the route potential, not the route potential by the competition. Example: In your examples, try adding the pax at each airport on the route together, and you'll see the first one has a much higher combined, and therefore also average, pax. I think that is how the formula works.

There is your problem. In the BOM - AGX flight, it will always show "good" potential, even if there is a billion competitors because BOM has 17.7mil pax, you cannot change the potential of a flight because there is the same amount of passengers at that airport, it never changes. Keeping the same potential. You just need to have "The Price is Right" to make a good profit.
Whereas you have a HUB that has 3.9mil PAX, not nearly enough to make a descent profit, and potential. If you want to have descent base, you must AT LEAST choose a base with a minumin of 15mil PAX. Even with a 15mil HUB you will still get a few Averages and poors, but not as much as HYD.

even if understand the matters explained it isn't clear
if the potential is daily/monthly/year passengers.
