Title: DOP
Post by: cyon20 on July 01, 2008, 08:10:42 pm
This may seem like a dumb question but I am new here and I don't know the answer to it.

How do people get their DOP so high? Mine is only like 77 thousand. Do you make a lot of flights? And would your prefer to fly into big airports or small airports with a few hundred thousand passengers there? Why?

You're new here and that's why your DOP isn't as high.  Don't take that the wrong way, it just means you haven't been around for as long and therefore you have not had the time to grow.  Those guys have been here awhile and have had time for their airlines to grow.  That's one of the reasons.

I, personally, like flying to larger airports, but it depends on what your goals are.

how more flight you make, the more DOP you get.

if you want to grow fast use the following aircraft:
Fokker 27
ATR 72
boeing 737/airbus A320

SE 210 Caravelle Super 10B was the one I used to grow fast, and many other people use it as well.

I have 6 flights all of my gates cost $50,000. Should I fly into big airports or stick with small airports? And I didn't think on AM, Airbus has the A320. I only saw the A300

world 8 is now 12/3/1980

I'm in world 7 & 9, I don't like overflooded worlds (7 is new, 9 is old)

TDA, don't confuse the new guy. World 9 is the new one, 7 is full and 8 has been going for a while.

A good basic strategy is to fly short routes at 1.0 frequency with no or little competition using affordable aircraft. If you are stuck on choice of A/C see what the others are using. Don't let gates or aircraft sit idly.

Post by: nwadeltaboy on July 01, 2008, 08:36:37 pm
I agree with DAK, but it works better for me to fly to airports near your base with gates that cost at least $200,000. ;)

Post by: cyon20 on July 01, 2008, 08:41:05 pm
ok. Right now I am flying routes near my base but I am not making too much money. I made more money flying into big airports that weren't near my base.

How many hours are left on your plane?

Careful, you may have one profitable route on one aircraft at 12 hours each way, however your aircraft may make a greater profit with 12 trips one hour each way. It is not as easy as it seems, you need to take your costs into account also.

nwadeltaboy, under "hours" in the aircraft summary, it says I have 14.

DAK, my longest route is 3 hours. Do you mean you want each flight to be one hour?
Title: DOP
Post by: DAK on July 01, 2008, 09:04:05 pm
No, Cyon, you need to find a balance, having 3 hour trips to start with may be a pretty good balance for you for now. Your next step is to sit tight once your AC is flying the full 24 hours and plan your first acquisition or lease (but only if it is a good deal, that is from one of the bigger lease companies in the game.)

"Hours" is how many hours the plane can still put routes in, out of 24.  So that means your plane is flying on routes 10 hours each day and sitting dormant for the other 14.  I suggest making routes to Cincinnati and Richmond.  They are fairly close and should make a fair amount of money. :)

oh ok. That makes sense now. Flying the full 24 hours should give me a lot more money right? And I'm sorry to everyone for asking a lot of dumb questions.

There is no such thing as a dumb question only dumb answers. We would all rather help you get better thus making the competition more fun when we annihilate you in the process.

ok. back to the topic. So my plane is sitting on the tarmac not flying for 10 hours. Is there anyway to see how long each flight is?
Title: DOP
Post by: cyon20 on July 01, 2008, 10:34:24 pm
I put more frequencies on each flight and my DOP went up to around $114,000. I went up about $37,000!

However you are now competing against yourself. Anytime you fly more then 1 frequency you become your own competitor. Click on the Route button http://www.airlinemogul.com/airlinemogul/view_routes.php and see how your are doing

Caravelle Super 10B's are the best when you are starting off.  They have enough range to have good routes, their fast, have a lot of seats, and cost lots less than other planes of the same quality. :)

The proper name is the SE 210 Caravelle Super 10B, (also an excellent Aircraft for it's price range)

SE stands for Sud-Est, which changed to Sud Aviation at sometime in the past. :)

Thats your history lesson for the day ;)

Man, if I had done this when I first started, think of how much bigger I could have been :(

Sometimes it is not obvious, from the model name, who is the manufacturer. With all the Douglas a/c, for instance. Here's a "trick": instead of picking one manufacturer, leave "All" selected. Then just search for the model you're looking for.

Or, go to the Aircraft List (in the Aircraft menu). There one can see the manufacturer right away.

Also, if you're on Windows and only know part of an Aircraft's name, try Control + F, a little box will pop up at the bottom of the screen. Type what you want to look for (you have to be on the purchase Aircraft Page), and PRESS ENTER.

Also works with Macs.  And, if you are in FireFox, you don't even need to press enter ;)
