Title: Scrap
Post by: thescene on June 15, 2008, 01:47:54 am
I noticed that I have an option to "scrap" one of my planes. What exactly happens if I select this option? What are the advantages & disadvantages of doing this?

You get about 10~15% of the value of the plane in cash.
Advantage: you get rid of the plane instantly. Disadvantage: Seeing that the minimum price on the market for reselling is 50% value, if you could get rid of the plane on market, you get quite a bit more. However, you might have to wait a while until someone buys it.

DO NOT scrap. As dktc said, you only get 10-15% value back. Sell on the market for 50%. Much more return. The wait isn't that long...

Don't forget that your airline value drops when you scrap aircraft.

Try sell them, if they don't sell after ages, scrap 'em.

Just s little caution... if you put them on market, you still pay maintenance. As a result, scrapping may not be that bad an idea. However, you should check out the market first, of course.

賣花讚花香 (or those who sell the flowers always said their flowers are always the best in english)
Well, scrapping planes aren't that bad because you can get some money no matter how old / unpopular your plane is
*Slapping myself*

Well my main concern is the high maintenance costs of my airline especially for my older planes. I guess it would be better for me to have them in service earning some of those costs back over it sitting idle for sale.

Age does not matter. I would rather buy an old Caravelle that costs 50% than dktc's 133% 737-200

Is it easy to sell 30 5-year-old Caravelle and B-722? I don't think so..... 8)

Is there a way by which I can find out how much maintenance is for each aircraft? That way I will be able to determine if it's better for me to just scrap a plane, keep it on the market or continue flying it.

Keep on market... at about 70%... Don't scrap it. When you scrap it.. it goes to the brokers. The brokers then put the plane on the market for 133%. Now you don't want that to happen
The maintenance... is in fact very low. Except of course if you're flying a 747

Ifyou will buy my 15 DC-8-61 and 15 DC-10 at once without complaining, I will sell them to you (Hamsters, I mean  ) without thinking (at lowest price)

I may have to scrap my concordes that I'm not operating anymore due to cost considerations. My profit margin went from like 55% to like 35% so I'm looking for any way to cut costs. We'll see. My other cost-cutting strategy is replacing my DC9s and MD82s with A320s in the near future...we'll see how that works out.

Well maybe I should put my oldest plane on sale slapping a competitive price on it. If it does not sell after a year or so then I scrap it.

cos people are selling planes cheaper than you, I guess.
Hmmm.... Your planes are too normal and there are many of them sitting in the tarmac, wainting to be sold or leased. Try some newer planes or ( Why don't you thought of that? ) post a topic in this forum and try to sell your planes ( cheaper price ).
