Title: What's next
Post by: MAXAir on May 27, 2008, 10:21:15 pm
What will be happening after the end of this round? In W4 we only have a little over a week left. Will the worlds just reset and we start over or will there be new time periods and new worlds?

The worlds will close, and you should be able to go inside them and view your airline. New worlds will generate to take their place.

So out of random query.... What happens when a big world closes down? Does that mean an equally large world opens up or could it go from like a 1k world to being a few hundred people?

It is random. However, if a small world is created, it will soon be filled, and another world created.

Oh, the MX cost will be changed to 200% of the airplane value :P

I have 30 tokens, when can i join a new world then, as in, one that has not yet been created?
So when will a new Empty world come online?

It's auto-generated. However, it should happen when the three worlds that end next week are done. Or when World #7 reaches 300 players. Whichever comes first.

worlds are automatically generated based upon a set number of conditions. a world ending, by itself, does not trigger an automatic replacement. the displacement of those players, however, may trigger new world generation.
nothing in the generation of the world(s) takes into effect old worlds that has ended. there is a chance that a full world with 1300 spots will be replaced by the UK only with its 33 spots. However, if this happens, the UK world may fill to 80+%, triggering the generation of another new world. Given that the automatic world generation script runs every hour (10 or 15 minutes past the hour), a small world replacing a big one should be relatively quickly corrected if need be.

I'm just curious,
Is there a possibility for a world to continue on without a stop limit. I sort of like to build up an airline empire then continue it rather than constantly building it up again and again in new worlds.
Just a thought.

Because the automated script was not designed for that.

Are those years randomly picked (e.g.2000) or year 19x9 /2009 only? (x can be 1-9)

World 4 is a pretty big world. If the ending of world 4 won't trigger the creation of an equally big world, what happens to the players? It's pointless to join existing worlds with a few years of playing time left. I just don't know how we are gonna fill up existing old worlds when people want to start on a new world.

World 7 at the moment is the only world which is being seen by the script as not meeting the qualifications to be ignored.
hmm... I might make an exception in the script to accomodate multiple world closing(s), however I do not want to overly flood the game with additional worlds. Too many worlds can be as much of a problem as too few.
Oh, and yes. game year(s) and length(s) are selected at random. game year(s) are anything between 1950 and 2007 at the moment (i need to establish some kind of fuel costs for 2008 to include this year), provided there is sufficient time to play the full length of the game (i.e. a 10 year round won't start in 2007, but at the latest 1997)
game length is randomly selected with about a 50% chance of being a 5 year round, 40% chance of being a 10 year round, 9% chance of being a quick 1 year round, and 1% chance of selecting anywhere at random between a 1 year and a 25 year round.
Year selected by the script is what drives some of the other things, like which default plane there is, etc. other things are just as random as the above two factors.

Then, will there be a chance of having a 50 year-old DC-3 as the starter plane as most of the airlines in the world started with a second hand plane. Also, will there be a chance of having a 747 as a starter plane? <<< Im just curious

No and no.
The starters are pre-determined with eveyr year having a couple of possible choices in the database. The script would then randomly select out of the pre-determined models for the years. 747's are too large for a starter (unless you want to go bankrupt like Oasis Hong Kong :P )

Oh, that would be a very noble way of going bancrupt! :P

Way too big. Just start with a small aircraft, which gives the start of a new round much more fun.
