Title: Boeing 707-320 engines
Post by: Mosha on May 18, 2008, 01:22:23 pm
There are 3 engine types for this AC but no obvious difference, i.e. same speed, distance flown, and fuel use. Plus the price is the same, so anyone know what is the difference?

Yes I worked that out,    but the same manufacturer, and maybe an updated version, but what else?

Surely there is some difference, otherwise Boeing would not have bothered putting on different engine types.

The difference was afaik the thrust, similar to today's HGW versions for example, but without added fuel capacity.

Maintenence commonality with other engines in the fleet. If Emirates was looking to order 50 new long range aircraft, the aircraft with most commonality in the engines could be the preferred choice.
