Title: Incorrect distances
Post by: KLM1991 on May 04, 2008, 08:26:58 pm
Hey guys,
Just a moment ago I was planning on some new routes and I found some odd distances. According to AM the route between EHRD (Rotterdam, Holland) and OMDB (Dubai) was approximately 3200 nm. A route which my new aircraft couldn't fly. When I checked the distance on Routefinder (http://rfinder.asalink.net/free) it told me this: Computed route from ROTTERDAM (EHRD, EH) to DUBAI INTL (OMDB, OM): 68 fixes, 2837.3 nautical miles
This is way less and in that way my plane can make the route. What's going on?
Stefan

AM bases their distance calculations on great circle distances, as referenced by this website...

A flightplan route may be also shorter, or longer depending.

Well, in that case it you are totally wrong.
The distance 'Great Circle Mapper' provide is 3222 mi Converted to nm this is 2800. Though on AM it tells you it's 3222 nm
Time to update the script?

There is an issue with the number formats in game.

Which means I'm screwed and can't make this important route due to a number format? Too bad.

Research Route is there for that purpose.

Nice but useless answer. I know I can't make this route. And that's not the problem. The problem is why I can't make this route. And that's because numbers are used incorrect in the game. That's too bad and IMO should be updated.
