Title: Madrid Cuatro Vientos - MCV

For a moment I thought I was flying from London to Australia on a Caravelle...

The GC site reports airport with IATA code MCV to be Mcarthur River in Australia. So, when I created a route from LHR to Madrid Cuatro Vientos in Spain the route map shown was... well, interesting. :D

It seems Cuatro Vientos does not have a IATA code. Could it be changed in AM to something like ZZZ?

Not that this has any other effect other than a minor cosmetic one...

Does anyone have a reliable source for that? When you search for MCV you will get both airports (I submitted that airport). I dont know if this code exists twice :roll: I could not even find an information on the AENA homepage :(

it is highly possible that MCV is reused.  IATA isn't as "one-code-per-airport" as ICAO is. [sidenote we're under 700 away from having the ICAO codes for all airports].

Seems both airports have being designated the same IATA code for some reason, both as MCV, then again, doesnt suprise me since Salt Lake City and Santiago de Chile have the same one, so nothing new here people  8)

Salt Lake City = SLC
Santiago de Chile = SCL

Got those from GCM which should be used. I did a copy'n'paste. If the data are wrong they are wrong on the GCM site. :?

I don't think Cuatro Vientos has the wrong coordinates. At least it's in the general area of Madrid. The only "problem" is that GCM shows MCV as McSomething in Australia, so the map that is displayed for the route is not the correct one. As I said, it's just a cosmetic little thing.

Probably MCV was given to two airports. GCM only knows the Australian airport for that code. But GCM is not perfect. When I was looking up different airports to submit here some were lacking of codes or rwy data or coords. As long as the network is shown by GCM based on the 3-Letter-Code this will happen.

Oh well... lets hope something like this doesnt happen again.  :shock:
