I think that many can afford 747 now. I chose not to buy one but have ordered IL-62's as I want my fleet to be all Russian this round. Il-62's are 166 million so I could easily have ordered a 747 a long time ago. There are 9 747's in the game, active or on order, 2 of those are by brokers. With a DOP of 10 million it only takes 1.5 real days to save up for a 747 :)

Not junk, just not good under the circumstances we have in the game. I won't go bigger than IL-62 personally.

Too much turn time earning the same as IL-62. Plus you have to edit them everyday if you want full load.

I might just end up ordering the IL-62 as my biggest aircraft this round. While the 747-200 is great for flying to large cities from large cities, it just is way too big to make a reasonable profit with considering what I airports I choose as a base airport. But I am cool with that, as I really have no plans to buy them unless I grow into a really large airline with some big time bases.

I'm thinking of staying a nice regional airline in Europe. So no 747's for me  8)

I've got 1/4 billion to spend on planes right now.  I could wait until tonight and order a 742, but what would that be?  $400M for a plane that might deliver $1M in DOP?  Hardly worth it.

im just going to get a bunch of 732's, then when all the routes are already made i will buy a bunch of 742's. :D

7

It's a whole lot of capital tied up that could be spent on smaller, cheaper planes with almost as much range (not to mention delivered a lot quicker).

If this is the case then people can't fulfill their wishes  :x I plan to fly from THR-SFO but I cant now because the round will be over by then, why dont we just increase by a couple of weeks the round or when multiworlds come up for the round to be as long as people want it

People were upset at the last reset being so late (5 years) I dont know what they'll be saying in February.

The changes to the DOP algorithm--coupled with players' desires to have bigger, faster, more expensive planes--have definitely slowed the game down. I think this time last round, there were A LOT more airports with 0 gates. Nonetheless, those with at least one 350k base are expanding much faster than those that don't. Oh well.

Well considering we are only 1 year into the round, there's still a bit to go!

If you have a 10m DOP or less.. I suggest not buying it yet. Im in that range   . If you really want to try it out.. let some broker it for you instead of wasting 300m 8 days before delivery. If not, after 8 days.. you'll regret wasting that

I bought my first 747 this morning (only a -100; I figure I won't require the extra range immediately) and plan to keep ordering them daily for the forseeable future.  I still have quite a bit of use for 732s, mind you, but, I my DOP is high enough to keep buying those en masse as well.  The way I see it, in a week's time, regional options will be running thin,... and I'll be happy to have the steady pipeline of 747s rolling in.  Sure, planes half the size cost half as much and show up in a mere 3 days, but I have no problem waiting for the real deal.  Only time will tell if the cash outlay kills me in the rankings.

I know the 742 isn't worth its money, but if I could afford it I'd still buy it :P

the 732adv bj is completely useless in terms of DOP for trans-atlantic flights.
