With the game being pretty gridlocked right now, I am already thinking of the next reset which seems to be ages away.
But anyway, if the game were to reset a week, what era would you want the next round to start?
Off the top of my head, typical aircraft available are:
1930s:
Regionals: Ford Trimotor
Longhaul: The Pan Am Clippers?
1960s:
Regionals: Comet/727/Tu134/BAC1-11
Longhauls: B707/DC-8/VC-10/IL-62
Max Range: VC-10, 5,850miles/9,360km
1970s:
Regionals: DC-9/B737/Fokker
Longhauls: B747/DC-10/L-1011
Max Range: 747SP 6,650nm/7,650miles/12,325km

I started in the 1970's, IIRC, so I'd love to see the 1960's. Going back to 1930 would only give us the same problems we have now: Lots of short routes because planes can't fly as far, causing massive flooding of gates/airports/routes etc.
-
60's all the way!
-
this round ends 1960... so 1960!
60s are cool anyways, long haul with 707/720, DC8, CV880/990, VC10... and not a widebody to be seen (the 747 entered service in 1970 really...). Plus all the new short-medium haul jets: BAC-111, Caravelle, DC-9, 727, 737, F.28, Tu-124/134... nummy!
-
I would rather start in the 30's and finish in the 21st century, would be awsome and airlines would have a good history but since we are half way threw the 50's i would say the 60's aswel.
-
Until we have multiworlds out, we'll probably reset every 10 years, so there's no way yet (!) you can run a game from 1930 all the way to 2009.
-
AirlineMogul became unplayable for most after 3 or 4 game years due to overexpansion. Large airlines become impossible to administer while the small airlines take the brunt of €1 price wars and the general lack of gates in the market. Competition is realistic but excessive competition reduces the "playability" of the game.
-
1930-2009 would be awsome!!!! Wonder how long that would take?, Still i would be up for it :D
-
960 days.
-
It's amusing surfing OpenTTD servers online, and how the insanely long rounds have the maximum company count allowed, but no one running them.
-
960 days!!!
That is trulley amaizing :D
saves us starting up again :D
i vote for 1930's-2009!!!!! all the way :D
-
You can't until multiworlds are working OK, and even then I'm not sure it will work instantly.
-

This next reset will be a 5 year round, and hopefully the economy will have been tamed enough [though i somewhat doubt it will] that it won't get unplayable quite as fast
Oh and for the people excited for the thought of 1930-2009... technically we have aircraft in the database from 1920-2009 [however the last 2 years would be cut off due to the lack of fuel data for them at the moment]. It would take 1,068 days to complete, or 2.92 years.
-
By the time we reach 2009 in-game, the data will be available I guess
-
I have what i call an aircraft bible :P sure it has fuel data would be willing to help on that tho.
-
What's the bible's title? Chances are it's already been used
-
the most near from the actual days, PLEASE
-
Aircraft worldwide or something but i can always get information of airline 6 wich has aload of information from fuel to max takeoff weight. :)
-
1970!!!!!!!!
-
Definitely the 1970's!!!! Love those DC-9's and 737's!
-
Has to be the 60's, we can't skip a decade.... natural progression (good ole Darwin)
-
But we are skipping the remaining 5 years of the 50's :(
-
I say 1970. The closer to present day the better.
-
the seventies would be great.
or why not the eighties?
-
From my constantly sentimental point of view:
AM started almost exactly two years ago on January 1, 1970. It should hence start, with a major upgrade (critical stepping into multiworld), on January 1, 1970.
:)
-
I want to finish out the 50s.
-
I'd like to finish out the '50s as well. I started rather late but am enjoying the battle. :D
-
I want to finish out the 50s.
Same here!
But the fact is a reset will happen, i'd rather miss 5 years than 15 years.
The 60's would be a good starting point.

I'm just saying if we are getting 5 years after the reset, why not start in '55?
-
Why skip over the entire 1960s? It's an amazing era - 707s, 727s, 737s, BAC-111s, Caravelles, DC-8/9s, Electras, F27/28s... the list goes on.
-
Definitely the 1970's!!!! Love those DC-9's and 737's!
You know, DC-9s and 737s are 1960s aircraft, right?
-
so at 1960 we loose all gates and aircraft that we have and we start off again?

Very late 1960s aircraft, meaning we basically won't get them in a 1960-1965 round.
@ Coll Alliance
Yes, resets have to happen at some point.
-
1970s! I wonder why did we came to 1950s.
-
A short, 5-year round (1955-1959) would help shake out the new code and give admins a better idea on how their changes have worked. Then we could start up in 1960.
I was one that thought I would hate the 50's round, but I've gotten to enjoy it immensely.
-
Heck, I even started smoking Lucky Strikes and wearing Brylcreem.
-
Please don't skip 1960. Such an important date!
Dont let the brokers suffer in 1970! Let them take a rest 8)
Edit: The next round won't be so great because of this whole multi worlds thing. So why make the 70's bad. Just make the 60's... and... you'll enjoy the 70's!
-
70's for sure!
I will skip 60's because of the AIDS :P
-
Oooh... one good thing about the '70s. CONCORDE!
-
I think we should move on to the 1960s next. I want to fly the 707s and 727-100s! But I will be happy either way as the L1011 and 747 is available in the 70s.
-
The game with a reset in 5 or 10 years is very boring, much players only obtain sucess in your airline after 5, 10, 15 years... many people make login each 1 day, each 2 days to 2 days, these people have a difficulty to express expansion, like a "gamers" that living in Mogul 24 hours per day.
The round is very good if like 1970 to 2000... after 2000 to 2030... like this.
-
747's and concordes ( :?: ) came out in the 70's.

You still CAN fly 707s (and 720s) and 727-100s. What do you think the backbone of many airlines were?? The props didn't even leave some fleets until the mid '70s! Heck, American didn't even retire THEIR 727s until April 2002 although 707s left US fleets by the early '80s.

Yes i agree with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

1970 it must be!!!!
-
The 60's!
-
I really don't see the point of skipping 15 years into the future - but that's just me.
-
1970s!!! Ooohhh.... my Boeing 747s and Boeing 737s... and maybe Lockheed Tristar!!!
-
Let's just start at 65. Since this is a 5-year round, we really won't miss the 60s if we start at 65. When the 70s arrive, multiworld and interface issues would have been solved by then. I don't think I'd enjoy a half-baked 70s.
-
60's!
Don't like to skip too much of a decade.
And I would like to be the first guy to buy a 707 when its INTRODUCED-AND we get fewer years of buying a 707 too.
But the 70's are most likely going to win. =(
*sigh*
-
technically we have aircraft in the database from 1920-2009
Technically, 1920~2013
The Clipper is not in the database because it is not an amphlibian.
-
So the game will last until 2013  ?
-
So the game will last until 2013  ?
It can last, but I wouldn't expect to see that time line in the game for a while yet.
-
The 70s had some gorgeous planes. So I must cast my vote there. Alas no Concorde though. I was actually thinking the 30s would be fun as it would encourage alliances and spreading over the world but yeah with these numbers the short haul flights would ruin it. Maybe if we had half or a quarter of the numbers we have now the 30s would be great but alas. But yeah the later we start the faster the skilled players make their money so the gap will be larger but I guess the only way to beat that is to be one of those larger airlines with the long haul planes early on. Do we get to choose our home base again? I think I might do a swap.
-
1970s! I want 737s!!
-
my suggestion to make greeks and trojans happy
why we don't have the 5 years in 1970 and when the 5 years period ends we back to 1960?
-
That sounds good. I wouldn't mind that.
-
Because then we wouldn't have Rome if the Greeks didn't win.
-
1970 of coz!!
i want 747
-
What time will the reset take affect or is that not yet decided. Could do with knowing so i can plan my activities for the first day with which i want to end the day with at least two aircraft operating from my Carlisle base.
Routes will be officially announced but i do have some idea of the first destinations i wish to serve. Also what is the 60's and 70's prime aircraft (the one you are given to start with!)

Not yet decided, however we will have a 24 hour log-in period again so everyone should get a chance to start on a relatively equal footing.
-
So are we decided to start at the 70s now?
-
Okay was wondering because as i said i have to work on the 23rd and therefore didnt like the idea i may come back and find out that everyone had started 6 hours ago and had a six hour lead over me.
-
big deal
Anyways, 1970. More plane options, but Id actually like to see 1965, or better yet, 1968 :)
-
i have one question.....why does everyone hate the great classic prop and jetliners? :? they are the most beautiful planes ever built......modern planes have no soul, they are all computer designed and operated.....
-
Because we're not sitting in them and there's no visuals yet. Right now everyone wants range, pax and money.
-

I think it's partially people like what they're familiar with (not as many know the prop planes beyond the Dc-3) and partially they like the speed and range afforded by the most modern jets. -shrug-
-

"Respect the classics, man..." -Filmore (from Cars)
so what if theres no visuals? as you said, range pac and money, so do just that....with the planes of the past.
i swear i was born in the wrong time period..... :(
-
To be honest, even though the IL-18 might've been a accident (introduced a bit early, eh?), it almost is like a small sized 737 or F-100. Only that it is slightly smaller and burns more fuel (though the fuel cost in 1955 would be not as hard biting as it would be in 2007 obviously, but it still is a very good plane). Also seems to have similar range to the base 735 I think. I have 40 of them in my fleet and just luv them :D.
The other "classic" birds remind me of their turboprop powered counterparts from the future too and to be honest, other than the airlines based at the megaports, they made up a huge portion of the airlines, just like the M 4-0-4/CVs do here.

Modern day planes aren't all made by machine! They are designed on computers, by people who put all their soul into making the planes!
-
the A380 has computer designed wings -- they are the most efficient wings ever constructed and are completely silent. :)

thats the thing, they are all designed and calculated out by computers, but penned out on paper, or a napkin while on lunch break.....there is no soul in the design any more, just technology....and for me, even being the tech geek that i am, that is not a good thing...

My friends parents work for Boeing! My own parents work for Boeing!
People design them on paper and on the computer! They put forth their minds and spirit into it!
Do you build planes?

With the new round starting at 1970...locked. 8)
