I don't want "look what I've got" or "mines bigger than yours".
Anyway, due to a wonderful suggestion by a friend of mine to get an add-on to work my FSUPIC is out of action and FlightSim in my opinion is useless without a connection to VATSIM. (Now theres a debate!) As a result I cannot fly. But when I eventually get it sorted over the Christmas I think I'll play around in an ATR doing Air Contractors flights for ABRVirtual (http://www.abrvirtual.com).

I have never flown on vatism, considering I can't land... But it is still fun to fly offline!

They are an Irish Airline owned by the ACL Group (I believe are South African) who operate for FedEx across Europe. They just bought Europe Airpost.

Well after discussing my real world landings with a Commercial pilot he reminded me:
A landing is a controlled crash. So dont worry if it doesn't arrive in one piece, you just need to get better at crashing. :D (Of course this only applies to FS in real world you need to be right every time)

i can take off and fly perfectly well -- problem is (especially with jets) i cant aim for the stupid runway. if my aim is good i can land the plane, but im always too far to the left or right.

I dont know which version of FS you are using. I use FS9. But perhaps it helps you anyway.
First turn down realism in the menu. Switch to clear and calm weather. Let the sim show you the glidepath (I used rectangles). Use the B737 which is pretty easy to fly. Now try some landings at a specific airport. If you have framerate problems you may deactivate the AI traffic. You will notice that you will do it better each time you practice. Also it maybe useful if you position your B737 20nm away from the runway (use slew mode). Set speed at 160 KIAS deploy full flaps. Set throttle and keep your speed between 155 and 165 KIAS. Although this situation is not too realistic it will help you with your first steps.

All this throttle stuff.....
I'll just wait to Chritsmas, till I get FSX and then do the tutorials :P

Don't you guys use ILS? :) As long as you make sure the runway is centered in your screen (horizontally, at least, vertically center may not always be good) and vertically straight, you'll land at least slightly on it.

Yes, I do. But in the beginning it helped me a lot to have that visual assistance. There was too much information for me to take care of - like flaps position, speed, altitude, throttle position, ATC, etc. Yeah, I could just set the autopilot to the path. But thats not what I want :D On the other hand some airports do not provide ILS. With the right a/c I am even able to take off, climbing a bit, heading back up-side-down and land completing the loop. I have seen this once in real life at LIED when the Eurofighter Typhoon was practicing for the Le Bourget airshow :D

Really, the landing part is the only part of a flight I really enjoy :) Mostly, when I'm flying transatlantic, I just have FSNav on with a flightplan to get me over the ocean, use time acceleration and when I'm at 200nm from my destination airport, I fly it myself again. Saves me hours of doing nothing. Except when I have a FSPassengers failure, that's still the best part

Well talk about progress. Last night I flew an Irish domestic flight, complete disaster... Two stalls and a dodgy NDB DME approach followed by dumping the plane onto the runway pretty much writing off the main undercarriage. :D Tonight, textbook flight and landing. 8)
