Title: Transport Tycoon!
Post by: Pacific on November 06, 2007, 04:33:12 am
Does anyone here play Chris Sawyer's Transport Tycoon? I find it to be such an awesome game, with a very wide range of stuff to transport (passengers, mail, wood, steel, iron, oil etc.) by various means (road, rail, air, water).
I play the open-source improvement of the original, called OpenTTD. It allows you far more vehicles and a larger station spread (up to 50 tiles!). It's also fixed some bugs in the game, which means I cannot sabotage the competitiors' railways - I really miss doing that!

yea... the OpenTTD version... I've heard about it but when I saw the screenshots, I was like omg, how the *** am I going to play it? There are so many things going on in that screen. Btw, the tech support for OpenTTD has stopped, correct? (I fadely recalled that the last time I went to that website.)

I have no idea. I know they've released a newer version of it (presumably more bugs fixed) quite recently, since my version is out of date! I don't see any issues at the moment anyway and it's better than Chris Sawyer's original in every way. Only issue is that the game becomes taxing on the CPU when you have lots of vehicles!

I've played it once or twice in the summer. I got sick of it not working  but it's working now.

OpenTTD is good, but I can never get enough of the TTDPatch with the Scotland 1956 scenario.
Classic. 8)

I played the first version of that game long ago (was it 1994?) and bought the Transport Tycoon deluxe version. Unfortunatly it crashed so many times. I was glad to find the OpenTTD version which is running much more stabil on WIN systems. It is still one of my favourite games. Never found a better game than this one although I tried different ones - like Railroad Tycoon. Does anybody know a good game in the TTDLX style?

god, locomotion blowed, actually the whole "transportation treated as rides" issue on rct 1 and 2 sucked
I love TTD and it´s sequels, I also play simutrans but I found it to be really buggy
some other cool transportation games are Traffic giant and Mobility (this one was the most realistic of all I´ve played and it´s almost free)

Yay for Transport Tycoon. I played the original alot when i was young, now playing the OpenTTD versionwhen I'm a bitbored. Great game it is. Still have to play multiplayer and make a huge company sometime.
Here's a screenshot of a level where i send everything to 1 place in the middle of the map.

 that pic made me crack! One thing that I hate about it is replacing the tracks. Seems like it takes ages especially when you have a huge network. TBH I cant get enough of the game although I've had to stop playing for a bit. also it gets boring when you have too much money also

I run OTTD and play online against people on tt-forums using some of the update packs. UKRS is the best :D. My last game I ended up with 57 Class 321s (which look nothing like in real life). I keep my trains to sensibe lengths - 3 x 4-Carriage 321s, up to 9 carriage super sprinters (158/159 - 159 is just a 158 with a passenger or mail carriage in the middle on OTTD), up to 10 carriage voyagers, 2 x 5 carriage, 2 x 4 carriage or one of each....
