Title: Short-Haul Aircrafts
Post by: Jps on October 30, 2007, 01:18:58 pm
As Green wants to make more profits, we are seeing which aircrafts are wanted the most in the market. NO DC-3! We hate them.

Thanks for voting. The poll will run for 7 days.

Bach Air Yacht :P
No, it seriously depends on the kind of route you want to put it onto.

Actually, many factors to consider here. Whats the passenger number for the destination (as well as the one for the base) is the main question that I ask myself, as well as how far away.

I prefer the 2-0-2 over the 4-0-4.... it may be a little bit slower but it is more economical on fuel and has a longer range, and if you're using it for short hauls the time factor won't make any appreciable difference.

^ I seriously don't understand why they don't use the Convair and Curtis then...

You need to define short-haul requirement, in terms of distance and turn reqs.  i.e. < 1000mi or <750mi, minimum of 3 turns.  If you state this, it'll pinpoint the choice quickly.

Some people prefer to use 202 or cw20 to do transcon, then leftover time for short-haul.  That works well for low popn. cities, where 0.5 turn of 40-50 seater is fine.  Others standardize to those long-range planes because it's easier to adjust route and not have to deal with range issue.

The game's model favor low number of turns over high turns, while in rl, consumers prefer flexibility of having several flights a day, although some would prefer 1-2 Boeing/Airbus a day instead of 10 CRJ/ERJ "flying aluminum tube of claustrophobia"

I just ran the numbers for those two aircraft, maybe I'll try a Curtis next since the pax load is larger and the fuel burn is even less (per seat at 100% LF) than the 2-0-2.  Again, a little slower than the 2-0-2 but on a short haul it won't make enough of a difference to matter.

Keep in mind that - even though the DC3 isn't included in the poll - everyone gets one as startup plane!

For the shorthauls, I prefer the Bristol Wayfarer. Good range at a bit over 2000, reasonable passenger numbers at 32 and I think the fuel efficiency is good, unless I'm mistaken. I use the Curtis on longer routes. Advantages of both of them: they're cheap to buy.
