I think there is Salt Lake City in Utah, I think it's a Delta hub.

Sure. If you flew a 737 into those places.
Tiny planes + tiny salaries for pilots and F/A's + outrageous fares = profit

To add, EAS sorta mandates that airlines fly there, whether or not they are making money on it in reality. But yeah, most of these cities will be seeing nothing larger than a Dash-8 land at their airport.

Sky West seems to do pretty well flying around those states amongst others. They are a massive regional airline that flies under the United banner. Its kind of short sighted to dismiss small destinations. With the right equipment there is lots of money to be made flying to small centres that rely on air travel. Kalispell Montana has quite a high tech community, for instance, and they rely on feeder services to places like Chicago and Salt Lake City.

Wow, do NorthWest, United and Delta all make tons of runs into the Dakotas, Montana, Idaho, and Utah. Heck it keeps lots of EMB-120's and CRJ's busy.

Northwest makes 4 flights daily into minot north dakota with (what else) a DC9. Having flown that flight (so yes I fly there) I can tell you its always full, there are frequent standbys and from what a friend of mine who works for NW tells me (and she works in route planning so she'd know) they make a small fortune off that route.

I think there is Salt Lake City in Utah, I think it's a Delta hub.
It is a Delta hub, a fairly sizeable one at that which DL is currently growing.
Regarding the wilderness areas mentioned above. Give it time. I'll be flyin me birds there sooner or later! :-)

If you're the only show in town people will pay quite a bit of money to fly your airline.
The government also pays the airlines to fly to certain cities (EAS contracts). A list can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essential_Air_Service

As for Montana there is alot of activity.
Delta flies into Billings,Bozeman, Butte, Helena, Missoula and Kalispell
Northwest flies into Billings Bozeman and Kalispell
United into Billings Missoula and Kalispell
Big Sky files all over the state
Horizon Air, Billings, Helena and Kalispell
So there is quite a bit of Activity in Montana, Wyoming is a diffrent story, not as much traffic.

Actually if you look at some of the big ticket ski areas like Jackson Hole in Wyoming and Gunnison, Eagle, and Montrose (Telluride) they have lots of winter service operated by A320s(UA) and 757s(UA,AA,CO,NW) mainline flights as well as plenty of CR7s and CR2s (UA,DL) with a smattering of Brasilias (DL-SLC) and Dash 8Q200s/300s (UA) as well as some really small birds like Great Lakes Airlines and their BE1900D. I used to fly on Air Wisconsin Bae-146s(UA) DEN-ASE, DEN-EGE a few years back but they have all be replaced now with mainline A320s and CR7s and Dash 8s unfortunately.
Oh and my in-game airline has a large regional operation to every major small community in the Western US from our hub. Its our bread and butter. :wink:

Alaska/horizon fly to Boise, Ketchum/sun valley, probably Pocatello and Idaho falls.
Great falls, Missoula, Billings, Butte, and maybe bozeman.
(possibly Helena)
Dont now about the rest and I though they upgraded the MSP-Minot flight to 757! (thats how much the demand has grown)
