Title: meal drinks and prices
Post by: rodendack on October 15, 2007, 03:47:33 am
so, how does this work?, it has some kind of effect that i´m unaware of?, or is it just to boost profit?, it would actually help me against competitor routes... or it isn´t coded yet and it´s just profit? :)

at present it's just profit. i haven't devised a good way to calculate (and recalculate) everyone's food/drink affect on demand. it would likely be pretty slight in the end. but. when i figure that out.... yes.

yep. it's not broken out as a seperate line when creating a route, but it's shown as misc revenue in the finance page.

that means that I can set them all at a higher ridiculous price and there will be no penalties?

As a result of my test, the max. price you can set is $99.99
**Still I'm going to sell it for only a buck.XD

I've changed mine and have had no change in the Misc. Revenue field. Still at €0, even after day changes.

I guess your prices are too high then, I charge 3 Euro for Alcohol and 3 Euro for snacks and still make some 9K Euro in the end of the month.

I've tried max (99.99) and even 1 across the board. No change at the time.
I just tried now, and it's now showing.
Earlier, I let it go for a few days and there was no income from it, now that I waited a few more hours(days), it's finally showing up in finance. I don't know why it took so long to finally show up.

I tried prices at a reasonable amount and was getting ~500 a month. I then tried a 99.99 and was getting ~100 a month. It did take a few game days for it to show, but it certainly did.

This is one thing I cannot get myself to do, being used to full meals on a flight as short as 80 minutes!

Remember most people (like me) are flying cattle class predominantly. That means unless you fly some awsome airline like Singapore Airlines, you wouldn't get a free meal on voyages that take less than 3h.
My 2 cents on the topic: You could introduce the effects on the load together with the seating arrangements. It's clear that you can't charge people for stuff in C or F while you're pretty free to do so in Y.

The 80 minute flight was Xiamen - Hong Kong cattle class Dragonair. I also fly Hong Kong - Manila sometimes, a 100 minute flight. On the flight back on cattle class on Philippine Airlines, we got served seafood and rice in the most delicious gravy and it had 2 juicy pieces of scallop!
My only "regional" EU flight was LHR-Helsinki on Finnair, cattle class. Nice meal but rather small by my standards!

I only have 6 routes and I'm making about $422 a month. My costs are low though, I tried to keep them as to what they would be during the 50's and just bring things up as the time goes along.

They'll only kick in on existing routes once they're edited. i still am not smart enough to make the script backwards update all the routes. :? it's on the to-do list though.

Set the prices:
there are various affects on revenue based on how many seats are filled on any given plane and the price set. (you'll likely sell few of anything listed at 99.99, sell a lot of stuff but with little revenue if it's set at .5). There is a peak balance, the exact number i haven't bothered to calculate (and i will not share it). a few fun things are taken into account (flight time, passengers on the plane, etc). so, you're not likely to sell any 99.99 euro meals on a 30 minute flight which has no passengers on it. but you're likely to see larger revenues from a fully loaded 747 flying a 12 hour long flight.
if you edit or create a route after the price is set, you should see an increase in the misc revenue in finance... if not, something seems to be up and i'll look into it. it appears to be working from my end, as i see some revenues in my own flights from this little feature.

So basically after setting the food/drink prices we should edit/update all routes?
Edit: Tried the above... works! Edited all routes and I have now a projected revenue. Will see how that projection lives up to actual revenue.

I have set my prices, and it looks like I am making more than 1,000 euros per day so far off of 3 DC-3s flying 12 routes. My monthly miscellaneous profit is 31k...

I found out something  .. set your prices to about 8-9 euros on the first day.. on the second do 10-12... then on the third 13-15.. really works

Sorry for bringing it back..
I had reasonable prices for 1 month, e.g. €5 Alcohol €3 Snacks €10 Breakfast
And what was my profit for it?
Consolidated Monthly Misc Revenue €179,901
Then, once I saw this I tried everything €99.99
And profit was then...
Consolidated Monthly Misc Revenue €9,671
May not seem like much but it can pay off a small gate every month
