Title: Aircraft up grades
Post by: crcole on October 08, 2007, 01:53:25 pm
Will it be or could it be made where it is possible to include upgrades on aircraft as the time passes.  Like the up grading of Convair piston aircraft to turbo-prop status?

If you look closely at the aircraft list, you would see several "improvements" appear on its own. I add them in when I could find the information. However, if there is no such version in real life, we wouldn't be able to get any performance data, and there is no guarantee that the improved plane would fly

You mean different models? That's obviously true, but things like optional winglets would benefit the game I guess. Upgrading engines where no real-life counterpart exists would be a step too far IMO.

Where is the " official " aircraft list?

I was specifically excited about the Convair Fleet of 340's and 440's becoming 580's.

The list linked to above is the one without prices, naturally.

Winglets and such are in Will's plan I think, but we need data on how it influence fuel, speed, ... etc.

And because the AviTech library is a 40 minute walk away from my dorm, I probably will never go get it.
I suppose it would get passed onto the new Aircraft Data Officer (the responsibility that is)

And yes, only official brokers get the price list. All other players would have to use the above link to the aircraft list with model and year of production in-game.

DC-8's are being processed. I am trying to sort all the data out of 90 pages technical details Boeing is providing on the web

There must be some easyer way... what about the airliner data&history section on airliners.net?

Edit: Data for the DC8 seems to be useful. You'd have to guess the run(a)way though...

The airliner data&history database is very limited, and just slightly more reliable than wiki.
(Yep.. so any data inaccuracy for the aircrafts, don't blame me. You can blame one the the following three: d1-3508, wikipedia, or airliners.net).

But that's better than having no data at all. Possibly writing a mail to Boeing could get the required data as well- some companies will do a lot for good press :D

The current data in itself isn't exactly the most reliable either.  Some fuel consumption figures are ridiculous (777 vs A340) and some of the list prices are out of whack as well (Dash 8 vs ATR).

I hope the issues can be addressed when convenient.

That is because we use part of the data to calculate the ones you mentioned for the game.
