Title: New warning concerning Gate hogging
Post by: dktc on September 07, 2007, 03:49:01 pm
Due to the fact this kind of gate hogging routes still exist, the AM staff will start cracking down on the players with those routes very soon. The routes concerned will be closed and the gates will be returned. We expect all of you to coorperate with us and restructure your routes now.

The most up-to-date definition of gate hogging route is "Excessive frequencies that do not exist to operate in a competitive environment but to unfairly hold gates at a given airport". If there is competition, then it may be ok. However, if there is not much competition on the routes, or that if the routes is so short that it doesn't make sense, they are in.

And as per StephenM's gate hogging statement (http://stephenm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1676), any multi-0.5 routes would be considered gate hogging as well.

Those that have received emails about it, we have given you quite sometime to restructure your routes, so don't complain this time. We have clearly stated that anymore more than 1 0.5 frequency on a route is not acceptable. Those that have never received any email or personal warnings, this is your warning. Next thing you receive may be a pm informing you what routes have been closed (we would send out a last warning with a deadline if we are kind... but that kind of depends on our mood :P ).

We don't want to close your routes or intervene with the game. However, if you force us to take actions, we will. Having said that, I highly encourage your all to take a serious look at your routes and restructure them if/when deemed appropriate. This time, I (as well as the admins) will be checking on you all. Take your own risk if you want to, but bare in mind there are consequences for every decisions you make.

And one more thing I can tell you; when I start looking, I will start from my beloved Asia.

I hope you all take this seriously (not that I care if you don't because I will), and clear up your act.

Just to be clear... on Very Long Haul routes where only 0.5 frequencies are possible, are we not being allowed 2/3 0.5 frequencies now?

I don't recall anyone allowing that.

Well, typically these routes don't need too many seats... and if they do, just use a bigger ac.

And else, bad luck.

Note: I have begun clearing out the gate hogging routes.

Any routes that fall into either / both of these two categories;

- frequencies of higher than 5
- more than 1 0.5 frequency

will be deleted. I am feeling kind so I will be emailing active users and ask them to close the routes before the deadline I give them. For inactive users, too bad... your routes will be deleted promptly.

As much as I am enjoying deleting your routes, please close them before I get to you. Any questions or problems, please pm me or email me at <daniel.chan@airlinemogul.com> . Please rest assured that you will have my personal attention if you have any gate hogging routes

I know a certain unnamed airline that hogs all of the gates at New York area airports with multiple 90-frequency 30 mile flights between them, Maybe you should look into him. (It'll be obvious who. >_>)

ok... so... as per our almighty creator (I mean the AM one... not the Earth one  ), the limits are now double. ie. you all can have

- max of 10 frequencies between any two airports
- max of 2 0.5 frequencies per route

For all these inconveniences and confusion, I would not apologize. For making players with id under 738 close their routes that are now accepted, I would not apologize as well. Blame StephenM for it. Personally, I still think my previous standards are reasonable, but apparently, Stephen and Air Elbonia think they are too strict. So, this adjustment is made. And I repeat, I will not apologize for it because it is not my fault at all. Blame Stephen for it (that is all flames and complaints and emails with viruses should be sent to Stephen  ).

I think gate hogging becomes very serious in certain degree. In North America, nearly all cities with more than 10,000,000 population are all having "0" gates.

A suggestion: Would the program allow us to rent slots (not gates) from the alliance menber so that most gates can be used more effectively? it should be able to reduce the number of 0.5 flights and be more realistic to the real world

That means there can be 2 0.5 frequencies per routes?? just crazy!!... I'd have to be racing again..
oh well that means I will recreate 8 more routes

And I think one 0.5 frequency per route is better... if not people would be using the same plane then creating 2 0.5 frequencies to get more money and create more price wars

I gave the instruction to allow a max of 0.5s per route. It was because on long hauls its understandable to have them but obviously its not ideal for short hauls. Remember 0.5s aren't gate hoggers, you need 10 of them to take any effect.

Shut *that airline* down! He competes with pretty much everybody. There is a similar situation happening somewhere else on a different sim (I won't mention it).

AH... yes. I have forgotten this airline totally. I am going through player's id and I am only up to 14xx (roughly 1/3 of the players) at the moment. I will give a warning to that airline concerned though.

Please stop accusing people in the forum. PM me or email me @ <daniel.chan@airlinemogul.com>. People who have done so would tell you that I do respond to those messages.
