Title: Round the world in 21 hours
Post by: 1993matias on September 21, 2012, 04:13:12 pm
I just found this great, wonderful Concorde, so I thought I'd take it on a test flight this weekend. This Concorde is top-tuned with a new version of the SNECMA Olympus engines, extending the range to (calculations based on a Madrid-Copenhagen flight) around 8000 nm with one hour reserve. This makes a round the world tour with three stops possible: (http://www.gcmap.com/map?P=EKCH-PER-AKL-MEX-EKCH&MS=wls&MC=CPH&MR=1800&MX=720x360&PM=*)
I will try to document all flights thoroughly and post reports below.

Starting at the gate in Copenhagen Airport Kastrup, I get pushback. (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/SST%20Round%20the%20world/2012-9-21_20-10-52-414_zpsba14d083.jpg)
Holding short RWY 22R with a view of old Copenhagen in the background (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/SST%20Round%20the%20world/2012-9-21_20-15-47-418_zps30f93f35.jpg)
Nice autumn colours and nice plane (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/SST%20Round%20the%20world/2012-9-21_20-16-51-388_zps9557a5cb.jpg)
As I said before, the Concorde is like a chain smoker. Look for the smoke, and you'll find the Concorde :P (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/SST%20Round%20the%20world/2012-9-21_20-16-57-208_zpsa2e68130.jpg)
Okay, I admit it! The Concorde is beautiful! (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/SST%20Round%20the%20world/2012-9-21_20-24-35-53_zps7cf4c949.jpg)
Night approach and landing, not much to see. I feel sorry for the people awaken at 2:30 AM  (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/SST%20Round%20the%20world/2012-9-22_2-46-11-112_zpsfc07bd27.jpg)
Arrived in Perth to refuel with only fuel vapours left in the tanks... (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/SST%20Round%20the%20world/2012-9-22_2-59-5-770_zps84971e88.jpg)

Next leg is a short one, Perth to Auckland, only three hours:
Starting on the gate in Perth at two in the morning, a "quiet" take off without afterburners; only 50% fuel: (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/SST%20Round%20the%20world/2012-9-22_17-56-34-707.jpg)
Night time cruise. You can see the thin rim of light prior to the sunrise: (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/SST%20Round%20the%20world/2012-9-22_18-28-35-903.jpg)
Sunrise over Australia - though I like sunsets more: (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/SST%20Round%20the%20world/2012-9-22_19-4-42-524.jpg)
Who would have thought of a Concorde when seeing all that smoke? Right? (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/SST%20Round%20the%20world/2012-9-22_20-41-34-455.jpg)
Ready for refuel for the trip over the Pacific: (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l405/skoleboss/SST%20Round%20the%20world/2012-9-23_12-5-21-187.jpg)
