Title: Buying planes off the market
Post by: Royal Dunes on June 12, 2012, 01:57:42 pm
Hello Everyone!

I am new to the game! Its actually amazing to know that many share my passion in airline management!

Anyways to get to the point, What advantages do I get from buying an aircraft right off the market?

I have noticed that the value of the plane can be 2.5 million, and is being put up for sale for say 3 million (The cost of purchasing a brand new plane would be 3.5 million with a wait time of 24 days). Would it be a good idea to buy such a plane? or should I outright purchase a new one?

I tried searching for the answer, but I couldn't find the answer!

Thanks!!

How much cash do you have? What is your DOC? How old is the plane?

Then I suggest you buy it.

Check the age of the aircraft before purchasing of the market. If it's one year or less, you can buy it if you would like so.

Why are there price variations in the market for the same acft type please?
For example

Airline Name    ID     Aircraft                    Value          Age    Cycles    A/f Hours    Price
D Express      18      Embraer EMB 110C    €2,787,143    0         0           0              €2,858,569    Buy
D Express      706    Embraer EMB 110C    €3,042,073    0         0           0              €3,058,854    Buy

Acft appear to be identical yet there is a value and price difference?

Furthermore if you click on the buy button you get the following information
Airline Name    Aircraft ID    Aircraft    Value          Price
D Express    18    Embraer EMB 110C    €922,632    €2,858,569

what is the value as compared to the price please?
Why is the value in this listing so much less than the value in the table above for the same acft?

Sorry for newbie questions but I am confused by all this above  :-[

It's the age. And AM uses different types of value different places, it is quite confusing.

Of these two values you've listed, you should be guided by the first one (2,787,143), that is the most exact as far as I can see right now.

The first is the appraised value (ie. the plane should be worth €2,787,143)

The second is the book value (ie. €922,632 is the value shown on the asset section of the balance sheet of D Express, calculated from the purchasing price, less depreciation)

I've always wondered about that and this is finally a good explanation.
