Title: Realistic Passenger Numbers for Routes
Post by: Hockeylad777 on April 24, 2011, 07:35:56 pm
So my new airline Oahu Air is based in Honolulu and right now flies inter-island. So I was researching inter-island flights in Hawaii and found that the Honolulu (HNL) - Kahului (OGG) route had in 2004 1,632,000 passengers about 4,500 passengers a day. In airline mogul the route potential is only Good - Between 700 and 1,400 potential passengers. So a fraction of what it should be. Is there a way to make route passenger potential more realistic or is it stuck at a certain forumla? http://www.webcitation.org/5kwsAzbbt (http://www.webcitation.org/5kwsAzbbt)

It is not only in Hawaii, many places separated by a narrow strip of water (wide enough to outrule bridges) have big aircraft flying on them - even if it's 100 nm. One example is Copenhagen-Odense (92 nm); before the bridge between the two islands there was great air traffic between those two cities. Another example could be the Caribbean islands.
So it is not only a problem of Hawaii. If there's some way of checking if there is a strip of water dividing the route selected, it could boost passenger numbers.
