Title: Question: Whats the best Aircraft for Inter-island Flights?
Post by: AirbusGuy350 on April 18, 2011, 04:54:28 pm
I will be starting Oahu Air (Hawaii) and I have Island Air (Caribbean) and I was wondering what is the best aircraft for both of those regions. I had ATR's for Island Air but the are slow and I could only run a few routes with them. Thanks for the help!

Between 1990-2010 I'll probably replace the entire fleet every 5 or so years.

Is it realistic or AM-style?
For normal, I'd say ~50 seats turboprop (Dash 8-300, ATR 42, Il-114, Saab 2000 and so on).
Try aircraft search too :)

For me, I would have EMB195, EMB120 and ATR's

I'd say you should look at 50-70 seaters. The SAAB 2000 is a good choice, it has speed an range enough to reach all of Hawaii. My second choice would be the faster variants of the ATR. You could also try the Embraer E-145 or Bombardier CRJ-100 for the longer routes.

go with the ATR best due to fuel usage

I'm currently using a MD-81 (because I had it already). It earns 10-35 thousand per route. I don't know about the ATR's, but I think they are more economical.
I've ordered two Dash-7-100, I will report on how they do.

I Hawaii? I think the MD-80 is a bit much overkill for those routes. Until the game takes into consideration the advantages of operating to/between islands, the small islands will remain the domain of the sub-70 seaters :(

Yup, in Hawaii. In the biggest routes, I can charge around 150 €, but the smallest is ~60 €, I think.
i will post results of the Dash 7, I will have them by tomorrow.

Honestly, for realism's sake; in Realistic World; you may want to run a 717 to OGG, Hilo, Kona, Lihue- ie: all the big ones, and a Dash-8 to alll the small ones.

I would say run regional jets. Look at CRJs. They might be a little big, but they can do the job. Once the ERJs come out (and I mean all of them), use the 135s. They are not only fast, but have a good amount of seats.
