Title: When will the maintenance formulae be fixed?
Post by: TheKevinShow on November 05, 2010, 08:13:36 am
In public world 1609, 2002 is approaching, which means I (along with many others) will no longer be able to buy 767-200ERs, which due to the limitations of the maintenance cost formulae, are the best long-range Boeing jet available, since they cost less than 200M each and carry less than 300 passengers. Basically, since the year's about to change, we're gonna be forced to switch to planes that aren't economical under the current formulae. The only long-range planes that will be available will be uneconomical ones like the 747s, larger 767s and 777s that are actually economical in real life but aren't in the game. When will this change? It's not an absolutely pressing issue because 1609 ends in a few RL months anyway, but it's something that really needs to be fixed for the future.

Correction: the 200ER goes out of production in 2004. It's the 200 that ends in 2002. However, my point still stands. It's just two in-game years early.

How about the A330-200?

I'm trying to semi-emulate Southwest's business model by flying a pure Boeing fleet. That's not the point, though. Planes above the aforementioned limits are useless in this game and that's not realistic nor is it reflective of real life. The same applies to many Airbus models. That needs to be fixed.

If you dont need more than 6100 nm you can buy A310-300.

If you dont need more than 6100 nm you can buy A310-300.

Depends. The A330-200 costs 136 mio, while the longest range A310-300 costs 139 mio. The A330 can carry 293 pax, the A310 280 pax. The A330 can do 6450 nm, the A310 can do 6168.

So the A330 is in fact a better buy. It costs less in maint, less to buy, goes further and carries slightly more pax. Also much cheaper than the 767-200ER

Any word on the original topic? I think this is the biggest issue facing the game right now.

Now, I make a 1,500,000,000 a month in a world and almost 500,000,000 on maintenance :'(

So? Time for some drastic cuts then! Reduce, reduce, reduce! Scrap all planes over 3 years of age. Shut down all bases outside of your starting country.  Then restart with ATRs ;)

Just a house keeping note, please only quote the part of the message you need. Keeps things nice and clean.

@Mastafa I had a look at your airline that has the 500mil in maintenance costs. You've got a fairly young fleet, I think the larger aircraft are making the costs go up quickly. I'm not sure if it will have much of an impact but I think you have 3 A330's at around 4.5 years old. Try replacing them and see if there's much change in the maintenance costs.

The formula acts a bit strangely since it takes an overview of the entire fleet and averages things out. I had come close to a trial of the revamp but that hasn't seen light in a while, Christmas is coming up and so is some time off to look at AM more. :)

Actually its a lot worser.

(Correction to StephenM): 4X A330's (4.1 yrs old)
1X 773 (4.0 yrs)
2X+ 738s (3.5-4.8 yrs)
1X 772ER (3.0 yrs)
3X 752s (3.8yrs)
3X 753s (3.0 yrs)

Lots more in that list by tommorow.

etc...

You get the pint, right?
these are just the jets

No need to do anything drastic, just make a few small changes. Its like I went back into W1609 and decided to modernise my fleet there. I had quite a few jets (Fokker 100's mainly) as well as ATR 72s and I ordered in a variety of E-Jets (195/175 and 170s) to replace them.

My maintenance went from 27mil to 60mil when my new E-Jets arrived (Age 0), but when I removed all the old aircraft from my fleet and had a larger fleet of E-Jets instead my maintenance dropped back down to 16mil.

So have a look and see what happens if you replace the 4 A330's and that 4 year old 777. It may or may not do good.

I already have a 10 long haul jets waiting to be placed on routes and 50+ regional jets.
