Sorry if it has been said before but the capacity of the 739 should be higher (a lot more than the 738, just like the gap between the 320 and 321). Adding capacity will bring more equality with the 321 as the 739 is its direct competitor.

The seating capacity for 739's is correct according to Boeing's website and JAWA.

Now, your suggestion is all fine and reasonable. However, please direct it to the aircraft designer and manufacturer, Boeing.

My bad, I did some search and found out that 189 is the max due to exits; But this capacity is reached with a 32in pitch while the 184(189 on B website) 738's capacity is reached with a 30in pitch! With a 32in pitch, the 738 only reach 175 pax in a single layout,
