Title: Airline Mogul Tournament Edition
Post by: ba4 on April 28, 2011, 09:01:54 pm
I have been looking around at other games, and they all seam to have a TE game, with rounds.

If it is like a year game, moving in real world time, I think AM could attract a lot more attention.

It could be like this: Round 1: Aircraft bigger than MD-90, 200m euros, 2 months
Round 2: All aircraft, 300m euros.
Round 3: All aircraft and added spaceshuttle: Challange as you can ONLY buy the space shuttle.

There should be no discussion about other Airline Games on these forums. This is solely due to the sensitive nature of discussing competitors.

He is not mentioning other games by name, just using the term 'tournament edition'.

I agree with Matias.
Lets get back on subject!

Update: The icon is underneath when you post in the rounds fourm.

WARNING: This is beta: you can comment because it will NOT come into the game: please like it Stephen!

I am working on a better, easy design to work with: the normal AM one is Ok, but it needs to have a bit more things for the TE editon!

As well, it will be another POP3. It will not work with the other edition, which may become SE, Standard Edition.
There is also game prizes:
The prizes:
1st Place - $50,000,000, add new airport or 1300 paid tokens
2nd Place - $40,000,000,add new airport or 900 paid tokens
3rd Place - $30,000,000, add new airport or 750 paid tokens
4th Place - $25,000,000 or 500 paid tokens
5th Place - $20,000,000 or 300 paid tokens

^ Doesn't make sense at all. Simple.

What I mean is...

The prizes are for the 5 airlines who are in rankings 1-5. The add airport CAN be removed.
I have changed my mind about the different POP3. POP3 is a diffrent server.

1300 paid tokens as a price? This game won't be around long if that's implemented. People will create very short one person worlds if that's implemented.

It is good. It is like a reward game, so you get tokens. It is for everyone: there will be a link.

I know you meant the top five... I am not THAT thick for goodness!

What I meant was that the prizes don't make sense at all.

Game cash => assuming that it is awarded after each round, the round winners will undoubtedly be the winner in the following round, due to the large boost; assuming that it is awarded after the tournament, why would anyone need game cash??

Add airport => the airport database is maintained by staff members, and who win which world has no affect on it. What we look at is the validity of a submission.

Paid tokens => Do you have any idea how much 1300 paid tokens cost?

And more importantly, you put more focus on the illogical prizes than on how it would work. You didn't even propose to us why we should consider it. Right now, you are like telling Bridgestone and Goodyear that they should rank restaurants because Michelin does that; and they should rank based on these 3 criteria; and they should give 3 stars to the top restaurants.

It is not even a business case, as it has no substance in it at all. Saying "please like it, Mr CEO" isn't going to help your case at all.

Free tokens and take away add airport!

I agree with dktc.

1300 paid tokens is WAY too much! It costs 75 Euros if you actually buy it from the paid tokens menu.

AM has no way of getting income except for advertisement and "token purchasers"

Do you know how much it costs to keep a website up and running?

Well that will cost Airline Mogul hundreds of dollars, and the worst case might be if Airline Mogul cannot stay online because of "financial difficulties". Even if it does, AM might charge money for users to play!

Actually, I've thought this out. And we were supposed to try something like this with the "Be Active" plan, however it didn't work out. Here's my idea; we have a series of prizes, with a small prize for each. But first the basics;

-300 players (large enough to be interesting, but small enough that we don't end up with an over-saturated area)
-Full World
-7 years (long enough to be interesting, short enough for roughly one major fleet replacement)
-6 bases (0 foreign)
-All Pax Aircraft
-Start Year (Different every time- rotates between 1970,1980,1990, and 2000)

Ok, here's the idea. Each of these prizes will have 2 winners- an overall winner, and a runner up.

Winner gets 10 free tokens
Runner up gets 5 free tokens

Any player can win up to 6 prizes in a given round but no more..

King of Airline Mogul- For the airlines with the largest value

World's Largest Airline(s)- For the airlines who carry the most daily passengers

Plane Manufacturer's Best Friend- Airline with the largest fleet (cannot go to the King of Airline Mogul as that airline will likely have a super-large DOC

King of Longhaul I- Airline with the greatest number of flights to other continents from its base continents (excludes alliance flights)

King of Longhaul II- Airline that serves the greatest number of destinations on other continents besides its base continent

Airline Mogul Superstar I- Airline with the largest value that is based in South America, Central America, Africa, or Australia

Airline Mogul Superstar II- Airline that carries the most passenger amongst those based in South America, Central America, Africa, or Australia

Big Boys- Airline with the largest fleet of wide-bodied aircraft

Queen of the Skies- Airline with the largest combined of Boeing 747 and Airbus A380 aircraft

Triple Dipper- Airline with the largest fleet of trijets (narrowbody and widebody)

Quadruple Stopper- Airline with the largest fleet of quadjets (narrowbody and widebody)

Regional King- Largest airline by passengers carried with only aircraft carrying fewer than 90 passengers

Super-hub- Largest airline hub by daily flights of any kind

Mega-hub- Largest airline hub by daily flights for a single hub operator

Mini-man- airline with the smallest hub by passengers at the airport with more than 50 flights/day

Single Plane Superstar- airline with the largest fleet of aircraft composed of only one aircraft type (all variants)

Single Manufacturer Extravaganza- Airline with the largest fleet of aircraft built only by one of the following manufacturers (Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier, Douglas/McDonnell Douglas, Tupolev, Ilyushin, Embraer, Fokker, ATR)

Anyway- the award names suck- but what do ya'll think of the idea

Nice idea, Bindu!

But then again:

18 prizes = 180 free tokens + 90 = 270.

270 free tokens given out. Sounds reasonable.

Yeah, but it has to be in no AM years, as a challange!
