New Boeing Orders
Hong Kong Airways announces its biggest order ever. 4 Boeing 747-400s (launch customer) and 30 Boeing 757-200s have been ordered. All will be powered by Rolls-Royce RB211s. These larger jets will allow us to better compete in the increasingly competitive world.

I like how the L-1011's nose looks like a dolphin's. Tristars certainly looked better than the DC-10.

As for the MD-11, it is just a failure. Worse than expected fuel burn translated to airlines cancelling orders. Safety wise, it rolled over during landing 3 times.

For me, the best looking sub-sonic airliner is definitely the 747-400 with RB211s. The features VS hates are exactly what I like. :P

Why do I say sub-sonic? Because the best looking airliner will always be Concorde!

I wasn't trying to get into a Boeing vs Airbus debate here. It sounds to me as though a "Automatic vs Manual" argument. Both options has advantages and disadvantages of their own. I personally would prefer controls with feedback, even if there are more "hassles" for it. And I appreciate it's your preference to have easy controls.

All pilots fly using one hand on the yoke only. One hand on the yoke/stick, and one hand on the throttle, regardless of the aircraft. This has been beaten into every single pilot from the very first flight we took ;). In other words, half the yoke on a Boeing, Cessna, Piper, Embraer, Tupolev etc. is purely for cosmetic purposes, and has never been used.

Yes, but there is feedback on Boeing's yokes, while there isn't on Airbus' sidesticks.

First Airbus Order
Hong Kong Airways became the launch customer of the Airbus A320-200, when it ordered 25 on the day Airbus launched the model. They will be used on high volume routes throughout Asia.

Updated Logo
The Dukling logo has been updated.

The proportions were slightly altered to make the sail look more balanced. The font has been changed from Helvetica Bold to Glober Bold.

Congrats, VS.

I would prefer Boeing's yoke than Airbus' sidestick as a passenger. I understand the sidestick was designed to minimise fatigue, but I just can't trust my life on one person's one hand.

Hong Kong Airways

Hong Kong Airways has retired its last propeller aircraft, the NAMC YS11-500. On flight HKA2864 from Sado to Haneda, passengers were handed out models of YS11 to commemorate this achievement.

5 more 737-200Adv HGWs have been ordered. They will be used for route expansion, along with the current 737s which are partially being replaced by MD-81/82s.

Suggestions / Move Forum Button to the Main Bar

Lately, StephemM.org doesn't feel as populated as it used to be. Perhaps moving the forum button from under "Home", to a standalone "AM Forum" button on the main bar might help?
