Game Data / Boeing 720 seats
« on: January 29, 2012, 11:46:35 am »
Hi!

Is there really only room for 140 passengers in the 720? According to Boeing there's room for 167: http://www.boeing.com/commercial/707family/720.html

But don't change it to soon, I'm using them as they are with 140 seats

Suggestions / Spacing in the purchase aircraft table
« on: January 28, 2012, 10:46:08 am »
Hi!

Is it possible to add some spacing between the data in the 'Purchase Aircraft' page? Like it is now it looks very, very cramped; you have to read it slowly to read what it says. Sometimes you mistake the number of seats for the model number.

Is it a Gulfstream I24? Is the engine a RR Dart 529-8X135?

Pretty annoying

General Chat / Hotswap

I am going to touch this dangerous topic:

Hotswapping - when?

It has been almost four years since the talks about hotswapping began (look here). Has the time horizon changed since? Has anything been done, or have you all been bugfixing?

I hope to get some date on when it is going to be released - if you have such a date.

Bugs / [#2180] Wrong number of players in world
« on: January 25, 2012, 08:20:08 pm »
Hi!

In one of the worlds I am playing in, there are quite a lot of people. But the world info proudly states there is only one person playing this world! According to the rankings, 37 players are playing right now. Looks like a bug to me ;)

Suggestions / View airport statistics
« on: January 17, 2012, 03:24:04 pm »
Hi!

When viewing a page for the airport, I would really like to see all (or the 6-10 biggest) carriers' market share at all times. Right now, when reaching around 300-400 flights, the airlines with more than ~500 seats are shown. This makes it hard to tell which airlines are big and which are not. It also makes it possible to click directly to the airline.

And how about a button to view all airlines operating at that airport?

Flight Simulators & Online Flying / Best freeware A340 and A380 for FSX
« on: January 12, 2012, 03:36:03 pm »
Hi!

I've downloaded quite some models of the A340 and A380, but they don't really live up to my expectations. No VC, low poly count, bad flight dynamics etc.

I want to hear if some of you fellow simmers here have some advice on which aircraft to download? Please tell in your post what is good about the model you mention - many liveries, good model, VC ...

Thank you in advance!

Game Data / Yakovlev Yak-40, -42 and -42D
« on: January 11, 2012, 02:38:27 pm »
Hi!

I was lloking through data for the Yak-42 because I thought 120 passengers was too many (it isn't), and I've found several inconsistencies.

Yakovlev itself states the maximum range of 2790km (or 1506nm), but AM data states a range of 1372mi.
The older version of the Yak-42D has a shorter range of 2150km (1161nm), different from the one stated in the game

For the Yak-42, the range should be 1530km (826nm) according to Yakovlev, but in the game it is 1178mi.

The data for the Yak-40D is also incorrect, as Yakovlev itself states that up to 36 seats is possible with a range of 1280km (691nm)*; the -40 is supposed to have a range of 1700km (918nm) (source)

The Yakovlev 42M seems not to have flown, so I suppose you don't want it in the system?

I'm sorry to ruin years of data research :P

*) I suppose the data on the webpage is for the -40D, as the historical page of the -40 says 32 passengers.

Suggestions / Gate search values
« on: January 08, 2012, 04:07:38 pm »
Hi!

Is it possible to lessen the intervals when using premium gate search? I believe the difference between 500nm and 1000nm is quite big, especially if I want to find flights shorter than 750nm.

How about we are able to input any desired number, just like in premium aircraft search?

Just another quick thought ;)

Suggestions / Islands affecting loadfactor
« on: January 07, 2012, 02:53:46 pm »
Hi!

Another suggestion:

When making island hopping routes (e.g. Hawaii or the Caribbean), the prices need to be low because of the small distances, therefore reducing profit. If each airport gets an island attached, you can get a lf bonus when flying short routes to nearby islands. If there is more than one airport on an island, they would share that island and routes between those two airports won't get a bonus.

Just a short thought, what do you think?

Suggestions / Car ownership and road network affecting loadfactor
« on: January 07, 2012, 02:48:45 pm »
Hi!

I have been thinking about this for quite some time. If we add data of road coverage and car ownership of different regions, it can have an effect on the load factor. This will make operating an airline out of small airports in rural areas much more viable, while it will make it a bit harder to operate in EU and US (because of the high infrastructure).

Why have both road length and car ownership? let's take an example: Taiwan has a car ownership of 297 cars per 1000 inhabitants. The road network compared to total area is 0,9 (total area in km2 ÷ total road length in km; the lower the number, the more covered the country is). Compared to a good covered country (Denmark, 0,6), Taiwan has an okay coverage. But compared to Denmark, Taiwan has a much lower car ownership, 297 compared to 549. So the roads in Taiwan are less congested than in Denmark, and more people are willing to take the plane, because they can't take the car, even if they have a good road coverage.*

If a country is too big to have a homogeneous number - e.g. USA or China - it is possible to have numbers for individual states/regions.

These numbers will have a big effect on short routes, but the effect will gradually get lower, the longer the route is; long haul won't get affected (who would like to drive 10000+ kilometres?). This means a Heathrow-Gatwick route will earn much less now than before, but a short route in Alaska will earn much more.

I might have forgotten something, but I'm sure I will remember some day soon :)

Questions about my theory are welcome this isn't at all final.

The CIA world factbook has the length of the road network of all countries; here it is listed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_road_network_size
There is a list on Wikipedia with the car ownership with sources on most numbers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_vehicles_per_capita

*) This is a completely squared comparison, I haven't taken into account public transport and size of families (if one car per family, is it one car per 3 or 8 persons?) and general accessibility of the selected countries.
Another thing to consider when calculating the road length per area is the population density. Mongolia may have a bad road coverage, but it has a low population density too.

EDIT:
If you have 375 Euro to spare, Stephen, there is a worldwide compilation of road and traffic data from 2011 here. It contains all the needed information from the same reliable source.

Suggestions / (Yet another) Aircraft ranking suggestion
« on: January 07, 2012, 11:40:07 am »
Hi!

I've suggested to add the aircraft name when viewing a specific aircraft in Aircraft Rankings. But a better thing would be including the aircraft stats (example below), so you can tall why so many airlines are using that aircraft. This means you can avoid having to switch back and forward between the Purchase Aircraft page and the Aircraft Ranking page. Furthermore it will allow you to see which aircraft it is without having to sort out the name from the URL.

Here is an example of my idea:

Suggestions / Price listing in research route
« on: January 06, 2012, 03:54:52 pm »
Hi!

How about putting the price of the aircraft when researching the route? That way you don't have to go back to the aircraft purchase window to check prices. How does it sound?

General Chat / AM livery competition 5 VOTING
« on: January 03, 2012, 01:02:35 pm »
!!!THE BUTTON TO VOTE IS AT THE LOWER LEFT CORNER OF EACH IMAGE!!!

So here is the voting for the livery competition. Remember there is a prize for the two liveries with the most votes.

1st place: 100 paid tokens
2nd place: 30 paid tokens

The poll closes in five days; you will be able to see the results on January 8th 1400 hours GMT.

Good luck!
