...and you're posting this why??

Perhaps you should be thanking the people who made the game and this forum instead of implictly complaining about the game.

General Chat / editing routes to make more money
« on: January 07, 2008, 09:55:40 pm »
Well picture how much money Microsoft would make if Windows cost $1000000000000000000000000000000000.  Nobody would buy it.  Essentially, when you have a monopoly on the route, you want to charge the price where margin demand = marginal cost.  Your ideal level of profit comes when you can raise the price to the highest level possible while still keeping your plane full.

Take a course on it if you're in high school or do some basic economics courses if you're done school.  Learning about pricing structures is interesting.

Perhaps you can post here and ask what you're doing wrong.  ;)

General Chat / Newbie question regarding Boeing/Douglas aircraft
« on: January 07, 2008, 09:50:46 pm »
On ideal routes you can make money with it.  People are able to charge that though because people will rent them.  Otherwise, people would lease them out for less.

The 737's are overrated.

This really is a great thing.  I setup a new base today and it was MUCH easier.

Just an FYI.  No airline would put a specific airplane into their logo.  It would force them to change it when they shift away from that plane.  If you look at the logos of real companies, they are very plain and generally are just text.  Have a look at Continental, Microsoft, IBM, Coke, General Motors, etc.  You're probably best off avoiding the airplane in the background and going with something more simple.  The 70's was the jet age.  You aren't exactly putting forward a modern look if you have a prop based plane right on your logo.

General Chat / What's Your DOP?
« on: January 05, 2008, 07:24:44 pm »
"1.8m and the following on order

7 Nord Super Broussard
2 Argosy 671 Commuter
1 HP Herald-200"

Are you sure about that?  Your revenue in 2 days is only 43.2M.  That excludes any costs such as gates, acquiring new gates, fuel and staff.  The planes you have listed go for $57M.  I don't see how that is mathematically possible unless you somehow used to have a much higher DOP.

That said, why bother with the commuters?  You're a small airline and you could buy 2-3 50 passenger planes for what they cost and you also have the money tied up for 2 days.  Essentially, if you bought a 50 passenger plane every 8 hours instead of 2 of those, the capital is costing you (8+16+24+32+40) days of productivity in the 50 passenger plane.

As for the Nord Broussards, why not take advantage of the leases around on the caribous or spend the money on the more standard 50 passenger planes.  You'll only very soon want to ditch the Broussards later and then you'll have the capital tied up getting planes again.

General Chat / Selling aircraft

Planes get sold very quickly.  I wouldn't worry too much about it.  Just wait until 5 mins after the hour and sell it.

General Chat / What the F?
« on: January 05, 2008, 03:28:48 am »
Well nobody here is paid to create routes.  Airline management are under pressure to create profitable routes and would operate at quite a heavy loss if they flew a flight for $1.  Doing so when the rest of the competition is covering costs or making a profit wouldn't exactly make the CEO likely to keep his/her job.

I would pat myself on the back for being good at suggestions, but that is some pretty killer turnaround time on the enhancement.  Nice job.

The only suggestion I might have is that rent be put there first.  Also, and importantly, this should have to be enabled in the preferences.  Otherwise, be ready for LOTS of angry people who click the button wondering what it does and bango they've purchased a gate.  Hopefully though they'll be on the page to do just that.

Go to the info for your specific airplane and you can put it in up for rent/sale.

Which is great in many cases as it means your competitors have resources tied up and losing money.  It generally favors the larger players.

Bugs / Maps not showing up on rankings page
« on: January 04, 2008, 09:36:36 pm »
Don't be mad that I'm making another post here.  Just consider me free QA for your app.  When looking at the rankings of airlines on the rankings page quite often the airline map of each airline doesn't show up when you go to the page.  It seems intermittent.  Sometimes this shows up and sometimes it doesn't.

Bugs / [FIXED] ' causes message to player to not be sent

Putting a ' into a message to another player causes a problem with a message being sent.  It is probably reserved character within the db or something.
